cat won't eat off of plate

This is regarding my kitten who had diarhea for a month. She's been doing fine for about a month now- no diarhea. She is eating her new food- limited ingredient diet. My other three cats love it. Before I changed her diet she ate low quality food- Fancy Feast- the grilled variety which contains a lot of gravy. Her new food has no gravy so it is a different consistency. She finally seems to like it but she does not want to eat it off of a plate. I use paper plates for their wet food because they leave some of it and it gets caked on the plate and I have to wash it after each feeding and then they don't want to eat off of it because the plate smells like dish soap.

My kitten (well not so much a kitten anymore as she weighs 9lbs) does not like to eat off of plates. She will sniff at the food and walk away. she will eat out of your hands or if you put some of the food on the floor she gobbles it right up. Is this just a quirky behavior or is something strange going on here?
