I found this in my Mothers pots n pans. What the heck is it used for?

This pan has a plastic handle, a button on the lid, pan with a latch, a wire basket.

I know you put some measurements in OP but would like to see next to something familiar for perspective?? You said a little more than a foot long and about 3.5 "circumference"?? Maybe diameter? That size circumference would be smaller than index finger to thumb "circle"??

I've got a lot of NuTone stuff in my house from that era. It is mostly bathroom exhaust fans and heater/exhaust fan/lights. One of them is a curious contraption that looked to me, earlier, to have a way to make it into an HVAC supply, possibly in a controlled manner . Now, I have some more info. Please forgive a little hijacking the thread Thanks for posting that link to the catalog, North Texan. I love that 50s ad stuff. I've got between 3 and 5 things out of that catalog in my house. First, some residual, nonworking intercom equipment. It looks like I have a 5000 series Hood-Fan in my kitchen with its dual squirrel cage blowers. Now that I know what the original lights looked like, I can take a close look at what the electrician/owner did when he hacked a 3' T12 luminaire in there. I've also got a "Fold-away" listed right under the 5000 series. The high wall mounted fan is probably a NuTone. I'll have to take a close look. The outside hood says NuTone and I feel it in my heart that it has a "patented no flutter shutter". I have, however, only a simple snap action switch ganged with a light switch in the same box. AMS, you want to sell your switch? I might be able to use it though I might need to pull some cable. Now, the bathroom heater-fan might be a close miss. My dampered outlet is definitely at the top rather than the side. Mine also appears to do more than this and the model number is different, longer. Maybe the longer number is an indication of added functionality. On the other hand, perhaps my was modified by the owner for top outlet. The bimetal spring might be what closes the (original) louvre. I really need to buy a full living room set and help with where to place everything so it is not crowded, I would need a area rug , What type of sofa , And placement , What size tv and what do out it on and placement , Wall colors and which wall what color ? Ideas for the Florida room windows? I too have noticed an uptick in the number of foods with added spiciness. I make a soup that contains several different beans. One can I typically buy now has a version with jalapenos added and it isn’t obvious on the can. Of course I picked up one that had the jalapenos and didn’t notice it until I opened it. I tried to pick out all the peppers but it was still very hot. I also use L&P and hope they don’t start messing around with the original recipe.

My friend thinks it is for steaming tamales. I guess you could.

The pan has the latch on it. Could it be for some sort of custard?

Since it has a plastic handle it doesn't go in the oven.

It looks like a Bain Marie for making things like cheesecake. Water goes in the bottom to keep the cheesecake moist while baking.

Forgot to add it would be for stovetop "baking" or "steaming" like for plum pudding.

Heck! I guess its a Bain Marie. Someone must have given it to Mom, I don't think she would have bought something like that.

To me it looks like it is for steaming the pudding type desserts that need a water bath. My aunt makes an amazing persimmon pudding (Nancy Reagan's recipe) that uses a water bath to steam.

I know exactly what it is cause I have one I got from my MIL's house! LOL
It is called a Turbo Cooker. You supposedly can cook several things at once. It was on an infomercial for awhile.
The one I have is brand new, she never used it. There is a vidoe with it but I haven't watched it.
Keep saying I'm going to try it but never have.

Interesting! It is a Turbo Cooker. No cookbook though.

I'll have to try to make cornpudding in it. I like steamed Asparagus too.

Yep, it is a Turbo Cooker and I got one too. I used it only once and made cupcakes. Some sort of cherry chocolatey cupcakes that used cherry coke, I believe. It was too long ago to remember. But, it did well. The cupcakes were light and fluffy and... yummy =o)

It was supposed to speed up the cooking time and should do steam, roast, etc. However, there was a flaw in the design, the lid. It wasn't heavy enough to stay down and tight in order for the steam not to get out.

I packed it up when moved and now, I'm not sure where mine is. I'm going to try and find it. I miss those cupcakes!

I got my turbo cooker at Walmart several years ago and I love it! I love to make stir fry in it.

We had one and used it to cook on the pontoon boat. We had a portable propane stove and this Turbo cooker, which we got off QVC, and it served us well - we could cook ANYTHING on it!
