Bruce I arrive in Anchorage at around 1 in the morning on Thursday along with a bunch of other guys from all over the US and we all stretch out on the floor and the airport seats and wait for 5:00 am to roll around. (We all look like bums) LOL Then we get our tickets for the Conoco Phillips / BP shared services flight at 7:00 am to Dead Horse. (ItÂs free for us) Upon arrival at Dead Horse we step off of the 737 onto one of Two busÂs either one marked MCC / PBOC or BOC and we head for the place we live. As far as the driving distance it all depends on where the well pads may be. May be 20 miles some times less, itÂs a big spider web of roads that are real hard to get used to no land marks, just those reflectors to tell you that you are still in the road and what side your on. With it all white and the snow blowing it can be real hectic and you can end up down in a hole real easy. NOT a good place to be at 40 below. PS At the air port lounge/bar and grill you can just get up and go out side and have a smoke and come back they wont call the police for walking a ticket, they know you will be back, the same ladies work there and they know who we are, most of us give good tips. They told us that us (Slopers) kept them and their families fed so they treat us good. Worth

I heard several people that did the dog breeder and ride, and they loved the experience but I looked and looked and it and just didn't think it would be that much fun in comparison to the real glacier dog sled ride. I did get the salmon fishing excursion, but opted out of it. The Deadliest Catch cruise, has heaters over you, so you weren't cold, but to tell you the truth, on land it wasn't cold and by the time you go the weather should be perfect. I went in July last time. No heavy coat. Glacier Bay was cold when you were moving, and nite time on the open deck for the movies at 10:00 was cold. But lots were in the hot tub to watch the movie. Didn't take my swimsuit, gs did, but he didn't get in any of them. On the Deadliest Catch, they have coats for you to put on. Lairsville, it was damp, but not cold. Be sure and get on the deck and no on the upper level on the boat. I did layer at night to sit on the open deck. Used my raincoat lots, not due to the rain, but it was heavy enough to protect me from the wind, plus I had a jacket, light weight on underneath, plus long sleeve knit shirt. I changed clothes after dinner back to comfortable casual clothing. Balcony was great, and was an extended balcony. Only thing was that it was not covered, and the upper deck looked down onto you deck, cause it was extended. LOL, when gs was eating breakfast on the balcony when we were at Glacier Bay, people over us, were talking about gs enjoying his breakfast, and wished they had done that. The buffet for breakfast was great, but the buffet for lunch was disappointing. Dining experience evening was great. And the big surprise and biggie for gs was the Baked Alaska experience when lights were dimmed and the servers walked around with the lite baked alaska's and eveyone was twirling their napkins to the music. If you are on the GOlden Princess, you will find the International Cafe is ADDICTING! Their ham and cheese croissants are delicious, their mini desserts are fantastic, but the bestest of all was they kept freshly baked peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies coming out all day long AND in the afternoon a server would walk around with a tray of small glasses of milk and freshly baked cookies. I dare not tell how many pb cookies I ate :o) I had rhubard ice cream instead of a slice of baked alaska

Hi Stacy Lucky you! We went on Norweigan and the thing I like about Norwegian is there are no dress up nights. I hate that! We flew to Vancouver and boarded; were on a week and it was just wonderful. The shore excursions can be expensive, but that's just part of it. I don't know what it cost b/c it was a present from DD#2. You will at least want a room w/ a window. It's kinda chilly to really enjoy the balconies, but they are nice. I had a friend that had been and she told me exactly what to take, and that's what I did. You don't need many clothes--you're not going to sweat, so stuff won't get dirty. Good walking shoes, some kind of hat, gloves, etc. We only used big coats when we went to Sawyer Glacier. The weather the rest of the time was very pleasant. They say it always rains, but it didn't rain at all when we were there. I hope you've checked prices on line as well as w/ an agent. That sounds high to me. Enjoy, enjoy. I'd like to go back some day.

Temps were up in the high 60's most days but cool at night. We did have the sun but some windy days too, so a jacket was needed for sure out on the water. The jet boats we took to the glacier required us to wear jackets they provided if we went out on the decks. Some sort of flotation kind of thing. Believe me, you needed it. I took a lightweight down 'sweater' (Patagonia) and a rain jacket and wore both at times but only just one or the other. DH had a down vest and a rain jacket. He tends to run 'hot'. We didn't have any bugs until we got to Seward/Anchorage and were traveling on the Seward highway near Portage/Whittier. It was one of the hottest days and we encountered some black flies and a few mosquitos one afternoon. Not anywhere else though. That night the weather guy said they were already out due to the higher temps and rainfall they had the previous week. If you are going later in the summer you will probably encounter both. Since we had long sleeves they didn't bother us.
