Anyone know how to get air to stay in this tire?
Comments (12)I made myself one of these bead seaters years ago with a 5 gallon air tank. Watch the clip.....works every time. They show it being used with a small air hose attached to the valve stem, but I've never used a hose with mine. Just charge the tank, aim the nozzle into the gap between the tire bead and rim.....and Presto! You're done. You don't even need to lay the tire down like they show unless it's really being a pain. I've done plenty of them while still on the trailer/lawn tractor/etc. No straps/starting fluid/rope/whatever required. Ever. Tubes are nice and all, but once you've seated a stubborn tire this way and you see how quick and easy it is....you won't bother with a tube in many cases. ;-) Here is a link that might be useful: Bead Seater!...See Moretrying to get to final decision for a replacement hvac in dc area
Comments (8)Is the fifth estimate from Hoffacker, which I think I suggested earlier? Their price on the Evolution system is fair for being a top-end system, and I assume it does not include the tax credit. Did it qualify for a Bryant rebate? I assume the Lennox complete setup qualifies for the tax credit as well. I believe you said this quote was from Hottel. It is a nice system, and I suggest having them include a thermostat that can control humidity in the house at no charge to compete against the Bryant if you go this route. I am confused why the Carrier quote would be less expensive with a 95% furnace, or did I misread that? I'm not opposed to the 80% furnace idea since you're in a townhome and townhomes typically don't require much heat (especially if you have two units on either side -- do you?). Plus, venting would pose an issue most likely. Did the companies look at your ductwork and evaluate it prior to proposing the new systems? If you plan on living in the home for another 10-15 years, and you can now get the additional furnace as part of a complete, new matched system with a good warranty for $2000-$2500, then it's certainly worth considering. However, the other argument is that you could see another 10 years out of the Lennox furnace (or could not). I assume the Lennox furnace has been reliable so far in the past. I agree with the XC14-030 and matching coil as a replacement if you do elect to keep the furnace. It's a tough call. If you did go with the full replacement, I'd pick the Bryant Evolution system. You were quoted their best outdoor unit. Make sure you get the CNPVP3617ATA tin-plated coil (ATA). If it's Hoffacker I'd be very surprised if they didn't plan on using this coil anyway. I think their sales rep that I was familiar with is no longer with them actually, and I didn't know this before recommending them. But, they are a good company and I'm sure you got another knowledgeable rep. Now I apologize for my small essay. :)...See MoreI need some major help making a kitty decision (sorry so long!)
Comments (14)Cat mom and all, no one's saying the cat WOULD become a biter but only there is a real RISK of aggression problems or other personality changes. Is it worth the risk when there may be options with a more certain or sure outcome? The point is you shouldnt think of it as a "last resort," because there is a real chance it would NOT solve the problem. How I manage a similar situation is to do sort of a time share - my old 20 yr old cat stays in the bedroom 8 am - 8 pm, then gets the run of the house 8 pm- 8 am when I put the new cats downstairs in the basement (there's couches and stuff downthere and I feed them when they go downstairs so they have pleasant associations. What makes this work is that its so highly routine - cats just LOVE routine and predicatability, same things happening at the same time each day. What was NOT working was just trying to keep them separate in random, unpredictable ways. Everyone has settled down knowing they each have their own space and own times for occupying the "common area." In the wild, cats often make these same types of arrangments to "time-share" an area. If youre not up for that.... do consider finding another home. Ive done it many times, found home for cat in an unfortunate situation. There is a way of screening people and making sure its a good home - I could tell you more if you want. There's always the long difficult process of getting cats used to each others smell, and build up their tolerance for each other. But Im thinking because the ragdolls are so passive and unable to defend themselves (are they? Ive never had one) that might actually be triggering the other cat's dominance and urge to drive them out of the territory. Nature and feline territorial behavior is not pretty sometimes. In my case I decided I just could NOT put my old 20 yr old cat, deaf and arthritic, through the attacks she was getting from the 1 young new cat I brought into the house. She could not defend herself and she was literally getting knocked down, clawed, bitten and terrorized and she started peeing out of the box she was so freaked out. Now, Im happy to report, she is feeling secure again and her old self....See MoreSo Many Decisions - Countertop colors and cabinet colors
Comments (11)It is confusing to set up a new kitchen because of all the choices and all the different but equally beautiful outcomes. Take the time-it may be many months-to get a vision that feels right. Start by looking at lots of pictures of different kitchen-there's a bunch at houzz.com and http://finishedkitchens.blogspot.com/. Save the ones you both like and would coordinate with the rest of your house's style (modern, traditional, etc.) I wouldn't worry about coordinating with colors in the living room-at least not yet. Set those saved kitchen pics aside for a couple of weeks and look at them again. Don't be surprised if some of the pics no longer thrill you. Take a better look at the kitchens that made the cut. What do they have in common? Are they all bright and cheery? Or maybe dark and rich in deep tones? Do you find yourself drawn to the graining of wood or to the uniform surface of paint? Uniform counter surface or lots of movement? At this point, you'll probably have narrowed it to a handful of choices. Not too bad. So, layout is next. The room will dictate most of that. Your budget will also influence the layout-changing plumbing and electric locations cost more money. The folks here are very good at pinpointing pitfalls of designs and reworking them into something more functional. With layout completed, time to pick the cabinets and granite. I think most folks pick out the cabinet color first since it occupies the vertical surfaces and dominates the room. Then take a sample of the cabinet color with you to select the granite. Note: there will be stunning graintes that you just love but won't look great with your cabinet. Keep looking-you'll know it when you find "the stone". Do keep an open mind-don't shop with a list of names since they vary from yard to yard. Take pictures to help remember, but realize that colors may not photograph "true." A few caveats. Do determine a budget ahead of time and try to stick to it. It's real easy for a more modest remodel to snowball into a total gut job. Don't be persuaded into buying gadgets/appliances you don't need. Do consider the impact of your choices on resale value. Are you willing to decrease resale potential to go with unpopular choices (like black counters with black cabinets)? Even if you have no plans to sell, life throws curveballs. There have been many posts here of "forever" homes being sold within 5 yrs of remodeling. However, it is your kitchen; in the end, it's your preferences that count....See Morepeonybush
