If you are looking for rustic, check in your area to see if there is anyone who makes picnic tables out of old barns/ out buildings.We are from south louisiana and there are quite a few people who tear down old cypress wood barns, plane the planks and make rockers, tables,etc. My sister bought a picnic table and benches from a gentleman,I thought I could use that in my kitchen if it didn't have the cross bars underneath, the guy said no problem. He put shaker style legs on it. I bought that, it came with 2 benches and had him make an island/snack bar as well. I had to finish them myself, but that was the fun part.I used a sander to round off the edges, like they were worn,the wood was antique so it already had some imperfections, and I stained it, and put satin poly on it. Beautiful, I get compliments all the time, they have no idea how much i paid for it. Hold on to your hat, it only costs me $180.00 for all! So check around.Good luck

We have one in our summer place that I got from LL Bean. I hadn't seen it in person before ordering, but a friend was headed to Freeport Maine, so I had her take a look at it for me! She gave it the OK, so I ordered it online. We've had it for about 4-5 years now, used for eating and art projects by our whole family, and it has worked out great. This isn't a great pic, but this is the table in our kitchen.

A good place to look is an unfinished furniture store. Even if you don't feel up to doing it yourself, you could probably find a tradesperson to do it for you. Our unfinished furniture store will finish it for you for an additional cost, but I usually do it myself. The cost to finish is sometimes almost as much to buy the original piece.

I have a local source who buys English reproduction furniture. Sounds like what you are looking for. They also do custom work, so I had them make me a new "old" top for my existing farmhouse table. They have a store, if you're anywhere near Birmingham, AL. you could visit and see in person. You have choices of different woods, legs, how distressed and shiny/duller finish. I believe cost start at 800 and go up to about 2K (very large, more formal). I don't know if they could order and have it shipped directly to you or just send you from their in stock.

They are the nicest guys, If you're interested, I"m sure they could work with you over the phone and internet (pictures). Email me if you are interested in their phone number.

Allison's photo is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for (is that your table Allison?). Cburch, that is close to the idea, but is a little too rustic for my home. The LL Bean table is too *perfect*...it needs to look older.

We purchased an 8-ft antique pine farm table from Seibels, in Homewood (Birmingham suburb), Alabama. We were on our way to Hilton Head for vacation and stopped in, and I bought it. They agreed to hold it until we had moved into our new house. We were not able to get back to pick it up, so they agreed to have it custom packed and shipped. They have a website, www.seibelscatalog.com, and Kelly is a wonderful person to talk to and help you with your selection. You can choose different width table tops as well as curved or straight legs. We opted for the straight. I found the chairs at a retail store and they look like they came with the table, the wood matches so well. Here it is: {{!gwi}}

wooderlander, thank you! We are very happy with it. Since I took these pictures, I found a group of beautiful mercury glass bowls and vases that I use for my centerpiece and it really shows it off. The rug that we added helps, too, so it doesn't look like so much "wood."

I like the chunky tables at World Market.

You might want to look up Hunt Country Furniture also. I had a hunt set and it can take anything abuse you give it.

Wodka, you have my DR chandelier. I go to Homewood all the time. Seibel's usually has a stack of table tops to choose from.

sassymnmom, yes that is my table. It's a farmhouse table and chairs purchased from Storehouse 18 years ago. It originally had a solid maple top. I had all of it painted (not the top), distressed and glazed about 6 years ago. Too many sentimental memories to get rid of the table completely since the children grew up around it.

Anyway, the maple top just did not go with this house, so I had them build me a knew one when they were making a couple of other things for me.

I've emailed them to ask if they have a website. Last I heard, they were working on one.

Those are my dining room chairs! I bought the matching table and china cabinet from Ashley's, and while I love the look, the table is a piece of junk! I have had it less than 3 years and two of the legs have had to be reattached and the finish on the table is bubbly and peeling all over the table! I have been happy with the chairs, however, and would love to find a matching all wood table. I looked at the website, though, and was unable to find your same table. Do they still carry it?

allison, it's a small world, isn't it? I would like to go back to Homewood and shop all throughout the area, when we have more time.

I picked my tabletop out in May, and did not see it again until it was delivered in November, when our house was finally finished! Mine was in that stack of tabletops against their wall for that long! They are very nice people to work with, especially Kelly. He really worked with us on getting the table shipped at the best rates.

flmom5, that is too funny! First, the chandelier, and now the chairs! And I thought I was being original - ha!

I've heard Ashley Furniture isn't very good quality, so when I found the chairs, I kind of cringed when I realized they were Ashley, but they're very comfortable and sturdy, and I love the paisley fabric seating. Plus, they really go well with the table.

It wouldn't hurt to give Kelly Seibel a call and just ask him his opinion and what he has available. Also, you're more than welcome to email me, if you'd like and I can see if I can round up more information for you.

flmom5, they always have those tables in stock. People around here shop there to purchase things for their lakehouses. They'll be out of chairs/beds, but never tables.

Kinda mainstream, but we got ours at Pottery Barn. I think it's called the Shelby table, it has red painted legs and apron and a sort of distressed pine top. It was $499 on sale this summer, could not beat the price.

I love the idea of a reclaimed wood table, but with little kids I was concerned about potential lead (I'm a weirdo, I know), and didn't want to spend a fortune (because of said kids), so PB was the ticket.
