What happens when you don't like any of the colours.

Oh no! We've already paid 50% of the kitchen costs (maybe that was our first mistake). We have our kitchen design and after some back and forth revising, we are finally happy with it. What we don't have is the perfect creamy white....I have this vision in my head of a soft, creamy, white kitchen cabinetry...what I am getting from our kitchen manufacturer is either too yellow, too pewter-gray, too harsh and cold...their antiquing (I was prepared to pay extra for this), only makes the cabinet look dirty. Yikes. I am tempted to consider taking my finished cabinets to another company to finish. How ridiculous is this?

I'm wondering what you saw that led you to choose this company and those finishes, especially the antiquing, if it turns out you don't like them? Maybe it's just because they're in small samples and they'll look better made up? But maybe they'll look stronger...I'd do what you can to make sure you're getting what you want before the cabinets are ordered and put in. Is this the only line of cabinets and finish possibilities with the design people you've worked with? What are they offering or saying about your displeasure?

Clax66, this sounds like a line of cabinets I was looking at yesterday. I only had the company's catalog, but it did seem that there was no perfect 'creamy' color available. If you're committed to these cabinets, why don't you have a door in this finish handy when you purchase the other elements of your kitchen? Wall paint can do wonders in softening or muting the look of any paint or stain on cabinets. This was illustrated by the poster on the thread which questioned whether or not oak is out of style. One of the posters had painted her walls a shade of green that gave an amazing transformation to her oak cabinets.

I still have the metal stake identifying where I planted Crown Imperial bulbs last fall. That's all I have since they never even sent up foliage. I planted them on their sides since I read that recommendation which said they don't like moisture accumulating in the center "hole" but there may be too much root competition from yews right behind where I planted them. Had to hack out roots to plant all other bulbs in that bed. I sowed various Zinnia and large cream Marigold seeds in front and behind bulb spots to cover foliage that still hasn't browned and died back. It'll also delineate where I can add more Tulip bulbs come fall. I sliced into bulbs AFTER I'd moved crocus & other small bulbs that were overwhelmed by "atomic" daffodils from mixed bag. Small bulb foliage disappeared and I neglected to mark where I'd moved them. I marked where I moved all the Hyacinth as I put them all together in a makeshift raised rock bed. Love that fragrance! I sunk broken off pieces of plastic spoons covered with mulch to mark where each bulb is so I know where to add more this fall and put a planted container held up by rocks over them. I love your set-up. First rate. I have to evolve into something like that. This is my first time. This has been strange and enchanting to begin with, but one evening 6 pupated at the same time. It was so eerie, like a zombie movie. These 6 are go for launch approx 7/25. It would be a hoot if they all eclosed at once like your gorgeous babies.

hollysprings - thanks for answering my question and the craigslist suggestion. we are still new to craigslist but i could see how that would be a great way to sell it if we go that route. xc60- have you used the double drawer dishwasher in the past or know someone with it. i've seen a lot of mixed reviews - seems like people love it or hate it. I only use my dishwasher 2 times a week right now but expect to use it more frequently when our family expands. a2gemini- i was going to look into donating our old appliances since they are in working order. i'm going to see if anyone takes used major appliances.

Jane, why would people throw up over using coasters? I have several nice sets (mostly from ebay), including some stone ones with fossils in them, hand-carved wood, tooled leather, miniature Oriental rugs. It gets so humid here in the summer that a beverage glass will sweat a big puddle all over a table, and the hot mugs we slurp from all winter long make nasty marks on wood, and the rough bottoms of handthrown pottery can scratch something fierce. DH pretty much wrecked the top of his ~150yo Victorian nightstand leaving a cup of hot coffee on the unprotected surface, I could have killed him because now I'm going to have to fix it. (I had glass tops cut for them when I first bought them, but I hate the "clank" sound of something like a glass or mug being put down on a glass surface, and that glass is a dust magnet.) Most of our tables are antique in the sense of "old stuff" rather than "valuable" but it doesn't mean I still think it's okay to trash them. I'm not one of those people who scurries around sticking coasters under people's drinks when we have people over though, that's just rude IMO.

This is similar to what I went through as well. I hadn't yet given any money, but by the time I realized that I didn't actually love any of the cabinet colors that the KD was offering it just felt like it was too late to start over. In the end I found what I called "perfect enough". I didn't settle for something I didn't want, but I sort of tweaked my vision just a tad to include the cabinets that I was being offered, and in the end, it's all fine. :)

Their prices were competitive and the customer service and professionalism of the staff are the two key factors that won us over. Sigh. We're picking up another off white sample tomorrow. Cross my fingers.
