Natural outdoor area rug advice, please...

Long story short, the lawn guys mangled the patio rug with a weed-eater. While the rug was very old, and definitely not in pristine condition, it will need to be replaced and they have compensated us (-::-) yay us!).

My patio will accommodate a 105" square rug. I can buy a 79" square "indoor/outdoor rug", that will be "ok" off the shelf, so to speak, for $89.

I would rather invest in a natural woven I can use outdoors and can't seem to find a square that will fit. Can you use natural weaves for covered outdoors, um, naturally? I don't mean to sound ignorant, but will the critters get after it? That, I def. don't want, ick! Will rain be a problem? I'm in DFW.

If it's NBD, I wouldn't mind having it cut and bound to fit. So, where do I go from here and not pay a small fortune?

I found one at Lowe's. It's a synthetic but looks natural, nothing goes after it.

For outdoors, you want olefin. It will stand up to the moisture and UV exposure. Even a covered patio will have those issues and a natural fiber rug will get musty, moldy, and potentially have critters chomping on it.

I have a very durable rug in my mudroom, it is rubber backed polypropylene. I live in Maine and we have an official 5th season-mud season. Plus it is fun- its called the pencil chicken! I saw a similar one( a different David Milliken rug design) in our town's music center- where people are tromping in and out all day in wet muddy boots and I fell in love. Have bought several area rugs, both standard and custom size and very pleased with quality, service, shipping and price. It's an easily navigated site with a huge inventory. Coll, I think the problem you encountered has to do with the properties of jute, not a particular rug. I bought a jute rug for my LR and indeed, it does seem to throw off a lot of debris, especially at first. I have cleaned underneath a couple of times but that's something to be aware of with that particular material. I've also ordered seagrass and sisal from NAR and no problems at all.

No to the rug. It will mold 123. I had a patio like this that I had to pressure wash all the time and it only looked good for a short amount of time. What worked for me was using Lowes Porch and Patio Paint. After it was cleaned and really dried out so the paint would adhere, I used a paint color that came very close to the concrete color. Not exactly gray, but with a bit of beige in it. After the patio was painted there was no more mold and mildew. I think it was because the porous quality of my concrete was filled with the paint.

IMO any indoor/outdoor rug will be synthetic. Wool or cotton would just soak up water and soon get mildewed. Potentially, hemp or jute might work, but they'd be very scratchy underfoot, and if used outdoors, they'd get muddy.
