first house, first time painting, need help!

Hey guys,

Allow myself to introduce myself..I'm a first time home owner who's been trolling the GW forums for the past month or so. I own a cute little twin in PA that's gonna require some TLC. I eventually plan on redoing both full baths (they're the originals from 1979 and contain a BLUE shower and BLUE bathtub and those tiny little tiles in multiple shades of blue like an old locker room).

Anyways, I'm starting off my decorating and little renovations with PAINT. There are some little nail holes in the wall I'm planning on filling, but there are also some slight bumps in the wall. There also is clumped dried paint around corners and fuzz painted onto the wall courtesy of the lazy previous owners. I read on here to lightly hand sand, but was curious if I could use a sander to speed up the process? This is my first time trying to paint my first house. (I tried asking my mom, but Lord bess my momma, she would just slap craft paint on the wall without even thinking)

Also, I read that some people clean their walls before applying the paint as well. Any advice on what product to use?

I want to make sure I have a plan of attack and am as prepared as I can be before taking on this task!

Any and all advice is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much!
