Dark Espresso Cabinets w/ Bianco Romano, Kashmir White counters?)
Comments (15)Thanks for all your responses. What do you think of Brazilian Arabescato granite? Ive also seen it labeled as quartzite but the person at the granite yard said this Brazilian Arabescato slab is granite. pic below what do you think? too dark for dark cabinets? As far as the KCMA cabinets, What do the tests entail? I saw a KCMA cabinets at a warehouse and they had pressed wood on the walls which concerned me. They just didn't seem as good of quality as these Chinese ones that I chose, yet the Chinese ones were a couple thousand dollars cheaper. The Chinese ones felt more sturdy and had plywood build all around, also they were soft close with drawers that seemed more solid. Have you heard of that Chinese brand Maywood cabinets? Do they have a bad rep or something? This post was edited by yorkiemiki on Tue, Dec 24, 13 at 13:59...See More50 Shades of Quartzite (AKA, is quartzite porous?)
Comments (24)"The natural stone industry pays her to shill for them...Karin needs to tell her Brazilian overlords that she's out of scientific and technical lipstick to put on their impoted pigs...Karin, I challenge you to put your geologist brain to work coming up with a solution to the pervasive problems inherent in the quartzite aspect of the natural stone industry" The irony is that in this very thread, Karin has written at length about quartzite and its properties, and has written numerous other posts about testing quartzites and what to watch out for. Apparently @joseph_corlett wants Karin Kirk to solve all the problems of the stone industry. @joseph_corlett's comments above about Karin Kirk are despicable even for him who frequently tosses out supercilious comments on this forum. @joseph_corlett - provide backup that Karin, as you put it, has "Brazilian overlords". Provide backup for your statement that "The natural stone industry pays her to shill for them". You are one to frequently talk of lawsuits on this forum. Yet here you are, fervently making libelous statements about Karin. If Karin did not respond to the recent comments by @Lindsey Brady and @jmh0405, it could be because they have not actually tagged her, so how is she supposed to know she is being asked a question. Her tag is @karin_mt. Though with what Joseph Corlett wrote about her, I wouldn't blame her for not coming back to this forum. Karin Kirk has a website with her contact info if you want to look her up. BTW, Karin holds a bachelors in geology from Skidmore College and a masters in Earth Sciences from Montana State University. She has taught courses about climate change, ran energy conservation projects, worked on national-scale climate education efforts, and worked with NOAA on its Climate.gov website. She also has a TED Talk on climate change if you are interested. (There are about 100,000 people that apply to give a TED Talk every year. 100 get selected.)...See MoreHelp with stain on Quartzite
Comments (6)Try dripping a few droplets of water in the same area. If the water beads up (i.e., doesn't absorb into the stone and leave dark/shadowy spots), it's likely the ring is an oil stain -- which means your contractor likely didn't use a sealer that protects against both water- and oil-based liquids. Any idea what brand he used? Also, what type quartzite do you have? Close-up looks similar to my Calacatta Gold....See MoreHelp with painting cabinets/walls with macabus quartzite as backsplash
Comments (6)You have a lovely home! I do think updating your backsplash and painting your cabinets a uniform lighter color will go a looong way! I'm not sure which of those whites is best--it would be whatever coordinates best with your counters/backsplash. I know a lot of designers on here suggest that cooler LED lighting for kitchens (and I understand why), but anything cooler than 3000K for me and I feel like I'm living inside of a Target store. Everything in my house, including kitchen is 2700K--it's a personal preference and I just am sensitive to it. You may not be and 4000K might work great....See Morepricklypearcactus
