I had never heard of a full size daybed although my niece raised her son's double bed on risers and then put a twin daybed size trundle underneath. Since it was a regular bed she didn't orient it against the wall.

I had a regular twin daybed and it was a little tricky to change the sheets while reaching across the mattress. I think a full size would be really tough.

In any case I merely googled 'full size daybeds' and discovered they do exist. Interesting.

I think it might be easier and just as functional to just put a regular full-size, or better, queen size bed in the room. My daughter (now 17), has one, and it always seemed to be a big hit for the sleepover buddy to share the bed with her. (Now boys are another story -DS and sleepover friends often didn't sleep in the same room?!?!?).

We always used airbeds for the additional sleepover friends. They are out of the way when you don't need them, and since we bought one with a small pump, ready in two seconds when you do need them.

just a thought, a full size bed aganist a wall will be a pain to make on a daily basis.

Having done twins against a wall and bunk beds, I agree with the pain to change full sheets against a wall. Don't do more than a twin against a wall if you can avoid it, and know what you are getting into there. I'd get the bed that will work for DD's projected adult height (she'd not far from some rapid changes). For my boys, that meant a queen -- and they wanted kings! Even if that's a twin, you can get a queen air mattress and the girls might all sleep on it while they are still smaller. Or have a full and a full air mattress that comes up to bed height and they can move one over, put them together and have a mega bed.

Years ago, we had a Charles P. Rogers twin daybed with a pop-up trundle - the pop-up is a terrific improvement over the ones that just slide out, if you have the room to handle it.

The only disadvantage is when whoever is sleeping on the inside is the one who has to get up and head to the head first ...

That is a good point about changing sheets. I was thinking something like this. Will this also be too difficult to change sheets and make bed? A full bed sideways along the wall seems to be the best way to maximize floor space. Maybe that is not something I should optimize. I would really like DD to make her bed everyday as I believe if she does not learn it now, she may never :)

We don't want to do bunkbeds. DH hates the look and DD does not like the bed on top of her.

Well, the one that you've pictured will be easier to make than one with a headboard and footboard as well as the side piece, but it still won't be as easy as a free-standing bed of any size. There's simply no way to easily tuck in the sheets/blankets/quilt/duvet on that one side of the bed. You'd have to stand at one end and lift the mattress and shove the bedding under it.

You know your daughter. How likely is she to do this on a daily basis?

You'll have similar issues with a full bed against the wall, but you can put the bed on casters and make it easy to move the bed away from the wall.

Most kids I know love sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags or on air mattresses. Unless she's going to be having overnight guests on a weekly basis, I'd get a bed that works for the 90% of the time she doesn't have guests, and a cot or air mattress or sleeping bag for the times she does.

Does DD love that daybed? If so, she might keep it looking nice. Otherwise, it looks like a good way to have a kid not make their bed. Pull up the sheets, perhaps, but nothing more formal than that. There is a lot of tucking going on there.

I had a daybed with a pop-up trundle and really did like that the trundle would raise to regular bed height. It doesn't have to be placed right against the main part of the bed, so you can have room to get out of bed without getting on top of the other person. A trundle probably means a skirt and that can make tucking in sheets and blankets more difficult.
