I know I want the MS SW Monarch (off the chip, not the actual formula), BUT now that I have it, I don't know what paint I want to have it in and I'd love to have some help deciding.

This wall spans a couple of rooms including the foyer, the stairs to upstairs, and the main hallway into the family room, so it's got to be tough. Do I want something with ceramic in it? Do I want all acrylic?

I have Miller (including Devine), SW, BM, PPG, Rodda, and even the Lowe's Valspar Signature (all acrylic, 50% solids by weight) all near me. I love painting with Devine (and I also love painting with the ICI Dulux 9300, but they're farther away--I could put it off till next week if people think that the 9300 is better than any of the others), but only a few colors of theirs don't look dead to me--would having it done in Devine deaden the color, because of all the titanium dioxide?

Thanks for any biased opinions on which paint would be best to have it mixed in. This is probably the hardest working set of walls in our house.

Well, reading old threads I think I'll go with the Valspar Signature--it's on sale this weekend, it's closer than the ICI, it's acrylic, decent solids count, etc... Never mind :)

i sampled very many grays and greiges alittle over a year ago... SW perfect greige and BM glacial till became my finalists for our master bath---they're very similar colors. i ended up choosing glacial till because (as i recall) it had just a very slight hint towards more gray--but, still very greige. i love the color- very soft, but deeper and significantly 'beigier' than revere pewter, which is right outside of the bathroom.

Touching up LifeMaster Eggshell is like touching up the mattes that are popular now, i.e. Aura. Here's how I do it. I take a little bit of paint and add a few drops of water - just a few. Mix well to thin the paint. Then I dampen a small sponge brush and use to to apply thin coats. Horizontal and vertical - not all the same direction. It dries fast because the coats are thin. Better to do multiple thin coats on the spot than one or two thick. No matter what finish, even flat, if the light hits it right, you'll see it. Doing multiple directions can help diffuse and hide. This what an Ebony Slate or a Cloak Gray could look like. I like it. I find this very attractive; even with the current color for the trim. Thoughts? As far as fading, you need to ask about the color you choose. Organic fades faster than inorganic pigment. Exposure matters as well, full exposure will obviously fade faster than shaded. Dark colors require more maintenance and are harder to touch up than lighter colors. A dark color enmass for an exterior is a commitment whether it's organic or inorganic pigment - no two ways about it. But it can be well worth it. Be sure to ask about lightfastness and UV rating. To make things easier, you can look into selecting a color from a manufacturers palette that is specifically flagged "exterior". Buy the very best grade of paint you can afford.

To funcolors re; foyer paint color

I'm assuming it was the golden tan color foyer that leads into the living room of aqua blue colors with a golden chair. If that's the one, the foyer is SW Harmonic Tan and the living room colors are Ellen Kennon's Full Spectrum Paints Wedgwood on the walls and Aqua on the ceiling. I often juxtapose regularly mixed color to full spectrum color. It creates an interesting layer of visual contrast with one enhancing the opposing characteristics of the other. It's a cool effect. :-) If that is the album/picutres you are talking about, it's interesting. Harmonic tan is shown in the family room adjacent to the SW Sierra Redwood kitchen too. The same color, Harmonic Tan is in the foyer. What's interesting is I get more inquiries about Harmonic Tan in the foyer than as it is shown in the family room. I think it's because even in photographs there's something detectable about full spectrum color juxtaposed to regular color and that's what generates more interest in the foyer than the family room. But I didn't come back with paint, because goshdarnit, after spending so much time looking up solids by weight etc., I forgot which finish to get! Can you help me equate finishes? It will be next to some ICI 9300 in Eggshell (an EK color--Pumice) and some Devine "delicate" finish (the original one, which I'm *thinking* is more satin than eggshell...?)

So would Valspar's eggshell (less shiny) or their satin (more shiny) be the right one to go with these two? Is Valspar's eggshell much more matte than the 9300? Is Valspar's satin extra shiny? I notice that ICI Dulux has only flat, eggshell, and semi-gloss, so which would be the closest to it in Valspar? I like the ICI Dulux eggshell finish. I get the feeling that the Devine is also closer to satin because she basically has the same divisions--"powder", "delicate", and "luscious" (there's a green one in there somewhere, but the main three are the ones I listed)--my instincts tell me satin, but I don't want to go *overboard* if the Valspar Satin is way shinier than the other two.

Any experience on this would be most helpful. I want to go back tomorrow and get it...thanks in advance :)
