Update on search for a Mouser

Following on from my thread on how to choose a good mouser. My mom adopted a young adult dark tortoishell kitty from a local rescue through PetsMart. Katie couldn't be a better cat. She gets along with Betty Elizabeth, the neutered Tom plus my mom's two house dogs. She adores my dad and follows him everywhere or sits in his lap or behind him on the sofa while he watches football or bull riding. He says she likes beer. Plus she has begun to hunt and so far has caught 2 mice in the house. So I guess we have a success. Katie has a good home and my parents have a mouse eliminator/deterrent. I also think she is inspiring Betty to get up off his fat behind and start looking for mice!

It sounds like she is one lucky kitty. :) Lots of love and a few mice...and Betty Elizabeth (lol that still cracks me up!).

My little Manx is a beer lover as well. You can't set it down it he gets wind of it. ;)

Centra Cabinets by Mouser - opinions?

This discussion is old but still showed up in the 1st page of goggle. Centra is high quality, you can get 3/4" plywood with the center ply MDF for the best quality stability/strength. Centra is excellent quality and customer service. Also, if you need a couple of custom pieces, you get access to Mouser's Premier line without having to switch the whole order to custom. Full disclosure, I sell Mouser, it's just like Woodmode/Brookhaven. After dealing with their customer service for years, I can say they are real experts. especially for higher-end things like appliance panels and mitered panels with returns. These are not the cheapest cabinets because you buy Ameican. They now have a lot of modern styles, which they were slow to add. They now have the skinny Shaker in quarter-sawn oak like in the most popular Houzz kitchen video. PS - We're in the NY metro area and we sell 99% Eurostyle.

We have had several failed attempts to move from our valley city suburb area to a community in the mountains nearby. First attempt we found the perfect house and the appraisal came in insanely low so we could not make the mortgage work. A year later someone came in and bought it all cash. It had been on the market for over a year when we made our offer. Second attempt we simply could not find any house that we liked within budget. Almost made an offer on one, but it just wasn't quite right. So we ended up buying land in the perfect neighborhood on a beautiful (yes sloped, it is a mountain) lot. Gorgeous views. Lovely neighborhood. Well, we spent tens of thousands on a custom design and were very clear on our budget. Our architect alleged that his area of expertise was knowing how to manage costs and keep the house on budget. Well, when we took the plans to builders, it came in at 200% of our budget. Now we're sitting on land and have a lovely plan on paper and building costs just keep going up up up. We bought a new house in the city suburbs in the valley and my husband switched to a new career where he has much more earning potential in a few years. But we're terrified that the insane cost of houses and building means we can never realize our dream. I imagine it's very similar to what's happening in lake or beach communities where people are swooping in from other states or other countries and plunking down all-cash offers that leave locals like myself in the dust. I really hope that you're able to find something you love, Annie. Don't give up hope. Maybe you'll find a great house that needs a little work. Or a junker house on a great lot and you can knock it down and build new.

Cats may eat things that are not good for them. Just because they "like" beer does not mean it is safe. Alcohol is toxic to cats. Their livers cannot process it. Just because your cats hasn't died from it yet does not mean it's OK.

What a wonderful story! Everything turned out so well for all involved (except the mice). I'm curious. Does Katie eat the mice she catches or does she offer them to your parents?

No worries elly I don't indulge my kitty's fixation with beer :) but it is good reminder: like kids, animals don't always know what's good for them.

She doesn't eat the mice, she just leaves them on her pillow and lays by them. And my dad doesn't give her beer, I think she just sniffs the top of the can and maybe tries to lick the top. My dad also likes milk and she's much more likely to try to sneak a little milk out of his glass.

Well, at least I'm not the only one with an alky cat:

I got a Burmese mix from a pound several years ago;
the owners had kept him inside "some" but mostly outside, & they had just acquired an Akita puppy, so "the cats have to go".

hmpf.

He likes to lick the top of a wine glass, & he acts like he would lap up wine.

& I sure as heck am not the one who taught him to do it!

I have an Oriental Shorthair that shows interest in wine. He loves and eats all fruits. I think he just smells the grapes in the wine. He isn't a wine drinker, but he would be if I let him. I keep telling him he has to be 21 to drink. That is a joke :)

That't great news. I've been thinking of you whenever my new kitten "hunts" me as I go to the bathroom at 5:00 am (fun for him, not so much for me).

When I was a kid we had a Dalmation that loved rum and Coke, but she'd settle for a beer. They never gave it to her, she'd drink it if you walked out of the room. She lived to be 14+, old for a Dalmation. And I know she got full blown intoxicated at least once, because my mother was pretty POed at my father about it.
