This one is lovely to me. I love the wood tones combined with the great use of natural light to still make it feel airy.

I feel like perhaps I should have centered my recent housing search around the local MCM houses.

Pal, I enjoy seeing the older great homes you post. I love older homes that were so well decorated that they still stand mostly untouched with much of their furnishings intact.

I was fortunate enough to have owned one of those at one time, and it is still one of my favorite homes. I bought it intact with most of its great furnishings. It was a pure joy to live in.

I love his house. We toured Taliesin West a few months ago in Scottsdale, AZ and the feel of the house just blew me away. My young daughter who is 8 could not get enough of the house and loved the what she described as "cozy doors" and the secret windy gardens. It truly brought home to me that architecture is as much about creating a feel of the place for the people as it is about the visuals. This house looks like it would feel good to live in.

Love the house! With the right furnishings it could be spectacular. I see pale neutral tones for upholstery to play against the woods. And, of course, a lovely color to REPLACE the flesh tone walls!

I think it is also nice to see a house that is not large, but sensibly sized and still well designed and appointed.

It IS fabulous! Love it from the exterior to the interiors. The kitchen was updated keeping with the character of the home.

Have to ask, where is it, what's the squre footage, and what's the price?

Very fantastic! I was about to start a post on MCM homes gone wrong, dreamt about it last night and woke to find this fine example. Thank you for clearing my head of horribleness! IâÂÂm having the most awful time finding a house to downsize to if my house sells. Your great example would most likely be out of my price range; however around here most all the modest mcm âÂÂstylesâ were all flipped into neoclassical interiors during the 2000âÂÂs (complete with columns throughout).

I think the inside is painted white and the mahogany reflects off the walls in photos.

It's fairly large for an MCM house but the square footage isn't listed.

It's a relative bargain at $669K (for its location)99and considering a near $300K restoration, but the taxes are high at $13,000+

The variation of ceiling heights really does give a good effect.

Great house. The woodwork is gorgeous. Not sure I like the fishbowl feeling, but gosh the library makes up for it. Did they show the bathrooms?

No, they didn't show any bathrooms, which in the Real Estate world, could mean that they are original, or it could be that they are so small it would be difficult to get pictures. Both baths in my house, for example, are roughly the size of the showers going into typical master suites in new builds.

They also tend to be 50s 60s looking, period to when the house was built, and less contemporary than the rest of the house.

Now I like this one! Not sure I've seen the exteriors painted white, but I like it that way. Gorgeous and interesting interior!

The few I have seen that are in neighborhoods where there are a lot of traditional houses, they have often been painted white to blend in with the colonial and colonial revival neighbors.

I think asking price is right on target for this home. The lot is beautiful too.

I don't know that there would be much disconnect, because much of the interior is white as well --we are just not used to seeing these intentionally lowered wood ceilings. There is definitely some of the notion of "compression and release" going on in the interiors.

I know that now everyone seems to want all rooms to feel expansive, and "light and airy", (which I think is a mistake on all counts) where houses like this purposely make some rooms more dark and confining as a contrast to the larger, more open rooms. In the wrong hands this can result in some dark dreary rooms, but here I think it was done quite well.

The organic nature of the ceiling heights is a good feature. I'm sure it could be difficult to pull off successfully. In contrast to today's typical builds, it's another thing that makes them seem more bland or less interesting. It's hard to get the same feeling from a home without the architectural interest. (And I should add, fine materials. No matter how good your taste is).

This is very nice. And it's nice that the kitchen remodel didn't go nuts.

They must have taken these photos last summer.

I like this a lot. My 10 year old son did his social studies fair project on Frank Lloyd Wright this year and is obsessed! We did the Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob tours and learned so much. I could live like this in an instant, and it does make you appreciate that good architecture can go a long way before you even have to think about decorating.

I want people to take note of the Tom Greene for Feldman torch cut chandeliers in the entry and stairwell.

Brutalist pieces get dismissed a lot as ugly, but I think they "fit" this house without standing out too much.

I don't *think* they are original to the house, the house predates the fixtures by about a decade and the ceiling plate that I can see doesn't look torch cut, and the original would have been.

I do not like things like that at all. Maybe if I went through the house it would look alright to me and not be bothered by it but I just don't enjoy looking at anything about it.

Love the house, and love the chandeliers! Can't wait to show DH this one. With all that lovely wood, it'll be right up his alley!

Gorgeous house. Nice kitchen, too many uppers for me though. ;) I love the screen, I dream of having something like that in my home one day.

I don't think I'd be drawn to the chandelier on its own, but I do think it looks lovely and appropriate in this home. I like the mix of contrasting light and dark tones, and the geometric sqare/circle shape. Okay, now I'm wondering why I initially didn't appreciate the pic of the chandelier on its own, as I like the parts of it very much. A natural knee jerk reaction against brutalism maybe.

Our house, while not in the same league, has more rustic cedar ceilings. The ceilings suck up the natural light, so I'm fascinated by the 'light shelfs' (I believe they are called).

I love it. I'd move in in a minute. But you all knew that.

I like that you can tell it's FLW influenced (playing with volumes, consistent theme to the wooden cutouts - very Usonian) but not just an imitation of FLW. This architect also did his own thing, by having a formal dining room, a decent-sized kitchen, and with the exterior in particular.

And I'm obsessed with the whole dovecote/fountain/pond vignette off the carport. Ob. Sessed.

Jakabedy I love the pond/fountain too. Already have that pic saved to show the architect for the cottage. I've never seen anything quite like it.
