Good quality primer?

Anyone with recommendations on a good quality primer on interior of new construction to use? Sort of want an economical brand as we know this will be quite expensive painting entire house too so .....if anyone has used a brand they are happy with please forward along the info. Thank you.

An economical primer may lead to paint failure or poor sheen appearance in the topcoat. You want to lay down a quality acrylic primer to ensure a beautiful finish. A quality primer will have very good enamel holdout which maintains the sheen of the topcoat. Don't settle for anything less.

I recommend BM Fresh Start Acrylic or Zinsser Bulls Eye 1 2 3 acrylic.

Gripper primer at HD is the one and only for every purpose!! It's the best on the market and has worked on every application I have ever used it on (even over wallpaper sizing). That DIF wallpaper remover worked great, too. I have discovered that using as hot water as you can stand to work with does the trick after scoring the face of the paper with a Paper Tiger.

There's SO little reason for using Oils inside anymore!! Use your quality Latexes, AND GOOD TOOLS, for successful application. (I'm constantly amazed at people...once convinced of how important quality paint is ($20-$50/gal.), they're so resistant to spend more than $10 on a brush!! It's what puts on their nice paint!! It'll do just fine on bare wood! If you're painting a light/white color on top, those colors have the best hide...so if your coats are good full ones, they'll hide the brown primer. Faron

Corrosive roofing shingles damaging painted siding?

I don't know who manufactured your fibercement siding, but it is definitely NOT installed according to The James Hardy rules/guidelines, and as such it would not be warranted by the manufacturer. 1) the siding has to be 2" above the shingle /roof line, to avoid being damaged as your is, by the splashing of water. 2) at the bay corner, the flashing allows the water to drip down the corner. I could have flashed this a bit differently to divert the water from the corner, but the real solution has to be a gutter or collector at that point. The detailing makes the difference. Fibercement products will not stand being constantly splashed or having water flow over like you have. Casey

Ditto to BM. I've used both primer and paint for over 20 years. It's the only thing I will use.

On new construction the Zinsser is overkill. My contractors use a top quality Benjamin Moore or Para. I'm not familiar with the Fresh Start acrylic. But certainly stay away from "economy" paints.

Why is the Zinsser overkill? It costs about $9 less per gallon than the Benjamin Moore Fresh Start. Since it's less, wouldn't that make it underkill?

Besides, in the paint profession, (where one gets paid) the base coat is the most important step and quality is never considered overkill.
