White Backsplash with Ceamy Cabs?

OK - the next design issue is upon us!! We have (well 80% complete) creamy beaded inset cabinets with Soapstone counter. Windows take up 90% of our wall space so the amount of tile that will be seen is very limited.

We have been finding shopping for backsplash tile very frustratiing. Any of the off-whites we have brought home are WAY too off white and seem to clash with the creamy cabs.. we were thinking of trying to use white tiles..

Anyone have creamy cabinets, soapstone counters and white backsplash? I'm sure we're not the first to run into this :)

Thoughts, opinions, and photos welcome!

Keep looking. It doesn't have to be an exact match, just close enough not to clash. I don't think you want a stark white tile with creamy cabinets. Do you have green soap stone? Would you consider transitioning with a light green tile? (I have the Graza Rixi in crema)
Also, you may get even more help if you post the creamy color, such as BM Linen White.
Have you looked through the Finished Kitchen Blog and the Backsplash Slideshow? Lots of ideas there. God luck, your tile is out there. By far, this is the most frustrating and time consuming choice for most of us.

Me me me!

We haven't resolved this yet, but right now are leaning towards Daltile's whites, which are purer whites. (I think "white" and "arctic white" were the two that worked best with creamy cabs.) Our cabinets and trim are BM Acadia White, which is a pretty warm cream, so I didn't want cream or off-white that would compete with that. We liked a couple of the whites at Heath too but couldn't get enough seconds in the sizes we needed, and couldn't afford to use their firsts. But if you have a bigger tile budget, they have some good options.

In general it seems like the way to go (or at least the way that looks best to us) is enough whiter than the cabinets/trim that it doesn't look like there was any attempt to match or get close. I'm guessing you could go the same distance away in the off-white direction too, but we already have a bathroom full of almond tile with the same trim/cabinet color and didn't really want more of that look. We have a pretty charcoal soapstone so are using black liner with it to pull the black-and-white theme out. Our walls are green, so didn't want to mess with any other color in the tile that we'd then have to coordinate.

It's beautiful!!!! Check out this tile, it was actually one of our favorites until I decided to go the white route. Mandala Tile, Sinu Collection, Color: Stingray. You will not believe how well this works with this granite because it is not a flat color. Seriously, go find it and take a sample of the granite with you, or bring home a piece. I generally go for "looks good with" rather than "matches". Trying to match can be tricky because the light source isn't always the same and what is a perfect match in daylight could be an unpleasant "just missed matching" under artificial light. I think various whites that look good together also add a bit of depth. I have a really high level of color discernment whenever I take that test that gets posted on here occasionally, so I don't think it's that I can't tell the difference between shades, --apparently I see it but it doesn't bother me.

FYI, here are some of my inspiration photos. I love the red accents in this first one (my compliments to SoonerMagic--I hope it's OK that I'm re-posting this) but I'm just not sure if white subway tile might be too stark in our kitchen. Our cabs are white rather than off-white, there's no window above the sink and there won't be much painted wall showing. If we went with this color scheme we'd probably do something like BM Bennington Gray on the walls. Not certain if we'd use the contrasting grout or go with something whiter. I like how the beige-y backsplash in this 2nd photo adds a little more color to the room. Was thinking a subway tile in this shade might still work nicely with red accents (with paint in a similar beige shade): A third option would be to do a grayish paint (BM Gray Owl?) and go with a subway tile in carrara marble something like the one below (sorry--I'm not sure whose pic this is). The problem is I'm not sure that would coordinate well with the red in our dining room. It's also a cooler color scheme than I'd originally planned. Any thoughts? Our floors are hardwood, by the way--similar to the color in pic #2 or just a touch lighter. Thanks again for all the input!

Hopefully, they will get the yellow marks off (there was a slab stacked in front of it). Msjam, I'm linking to an earlier GW thread about your granite choice. I suspect that the yellow marks are iron oxidation (rust) that originates from within the stone. Wanted to give you a heads up on this so you don't get any nasty surprises on down the road. From what I've read, the iron bits in stone can continue to oxidize and you'll be seeing more or it as time goes by. You might want to investigate further... Colonial Cream Granite discussion
