anyone use brick-anew to paint brick?

I have an ugly brick fireplace that was whitwashed and I want to paint it so it looks like natural brick. Has anyone used BRICK-ANEW? Any other suggestions to paint so that the brick looks natural rather than uniform matte would be welcome.

Hi Venus - I thought I made a posting to you last week - but I guess it didn't go through. I've used Brick-Anew on a couple of fireplaces with good success. It was easy to use with great results. I think the best thing was that it came out looking like real brick. They have some good before after pictures on their website - see link. Let me know if you have any other questions. Overall I would say that if you have an ugly fireplace it is a great solution and a lot easier than other remodeling options.

I would love to use this but can't get a response from leaving phone message or e-mail. Did you have trouble with getting in touch or did you just order? I have a fireplace (eyesore) that is either marble or some other white stone and is very porus so would maybe act like brick but wanted to ask about that before I ordered. Any help appreciated. Is there any other product like this that you know of?

No, I don't think you can get the cut and paste technique to work, I tried it. Photobucket probably is the easiest. You can do a search on this forum on it and get some information. I just went to the photobucket website, created a free account and uploaded some photo's into an album. When you opened the photo in the album, you will see a box on the left that says "Share this Image". In the box there is a HTML code description of the photo that you can copy and paste right into your Home Forum Message. When you hit "Preview Message" the photo will appear. You can practice by going to the test forum on this board which is found under "instructions" hyperlink in the introductory paragraph on this forum website. Or just do it, hit Preview Message, and see if it works. Good luck!

So you can't find it on the web. Where did you hear about it? That seems to be a good place to start. What do you what to do, re-face an existing brick? Of course you know the brick inside (where the fire is) is a special fire brick, different than the surround brick, and chimeny brick, if you have that. It think even in the 70s the chimney would be lined with a fire tile.

Think long and hard about painting a fireplace if it is a working fireplace. Think too about how long you are going to be in the house. If you are planing on moving anytime soon I'd think again about changing the fireplace. A good option if you aren't going to be in the house much longer so you can still get what you want is to use inexpensive plywood to cover over the brick and then paint. Brick typically needs to be cleaned well and primed before painting. It's not easy painting brick as it will suck up lots of paint and applying it is not what I'd call a fun day of painting.

I posted about my experience with Brick-ANew but I came across this thread and thought I would share my two cents here too. I have used brick-anew on a few different fireplaces over the years now and have always been very impressed with the results. Never had a problem contacting them either, they always picked up the phone when I called.
