Does it have to be a new one? My first was a GE washer/dryer combo we bought second hand with change we had saved all year. My first new washer was a Kenmore. Bought the dryer to go with also. And, guess what? My current set is a Kenmore too 40 years later.

We bought a matching washer dryer set in Harvest Gold when we were first married. It was a Signature. That was the brand name of appliances at Montgomery Wards. It was Harvest Gold.

I miss Monkey Wards.

That would be the Maytag set I bought from the man whose wife was divorcing him. He'd given her the set for Christmas.

The first new set we bought was a Roper (by Whirlpool).

my first BRAND NEW washer was last year, and it is a Kenmore.

I haven't got the foggiest notion. So many years ago.

Our set was a GE--back in the days when GE made real quality merchandise. They lasted 28 years before I replaced the pair with the Whirlpool set I have now. Back then, I bought everything GE--wouldn't touch the brand today, for both quality, and political reasons.

Mine was a Kenmore back in 1960 when we first married.It lasted for years!All others since have been kenmore.

It was a ringer washer that was left by previous owners of the house, but I don't recall the brand name. Maytag, maybe? Used it for three or four years then parents gave me their old automatic washer and dryer set - Kenmore. Years later I bought a Frigidaire stacked unit, and last October I bought a new Maytag stacked unit.

Kenmore. Matching washer/dryer set purchased 24 years ago. Washer was replaced with another brand new Kenmore in 2002, and the dryer was replaced in 2009.

We didn't buy a washer and dryer until 1968. Both were GE. They both lasted until 1987. We bought a new home and still have this home, so both that were purchased in 1987 still work perfect. In the first years of marriage we used a coin laundry during the years hubby was in service . I still think of how much I disliked going to the laundry. In our new home we have GE also, the most amazing with the new machines, I can hardly hear our new ones running. Our old ones sound like a race car changing gears.

My first new washer was my only washer and I'm using it to this day. It's a JC Penney brand, made by GE. It was a year-old model and the floor model so I got a great deal on it. Bought it in February of 1980 and it's still going strong. It's avocado green and is on it's 3rd dryer. Outlasted a Maytag dryer, a Frigidaire dryer and now challenging a Whirlpool.

In 1969, when we bought our first house....a Kenmore.
Sears never showed up to deliver the refrigerator, washer and dryer we bought.
Called them, and they promised tomorrow....still nothing delivered.
Called them, and asked what was the procedure to file an insurance claim for the cost of spoiled food, as we had to vacate our apartment.
Third day....got our Kenmore appliances.

Never bought anything from Sears after that.

I'm pretty sure it was a Kenmore. My MIL and FIL bought a washer/dryer set for DH's brother, and he decided he didn't want them for some reason, so they gave them to us. I think we got a lawnmower that way too. We were married and in our own house for over 20 years before we ever had to buy ourselves a washer, dryer, lawnmower, mixer or vacuum cleaner, I think. We were never comfortable receiving these things from them, but DH's brother was always asking them for "help" and they were fiendish about making sure everything was "equal".

Hotpoint, bought it 27 years ago and still have it.

It was a white whirlpool, silver edition. I won't forget that one. It was so pretty. ;)

Mine was a Kenmore Wringer. When we decided to buy one, they were running a Special and if you bought the Washer, you got a Mangle.

Great for sheets, table clothes, etc. I even learned to do my DH's shirts.

I was very proud to have it. I was the first kid on the block to have one! In fact I didn't know anybody else who had one. lol

I am 60 years old, and have purchased three washing machines and two dryers in my life, and all were brand new.

The first of each were a matched set -- Kenmore. They had "Sears Best" on them. Harvest Gold. That was July 1971.

The washing machine was replaced with another brand new Kenmore in January 1982. Almond color. The dryer was still going strong.

That second washing machine was replaced in (I think) late January 2008 with a brand new GE Profile. White.

Although the 1971 Harvest Gold Sears Best Kenmore dryer was still going strong, a few months after we got the new GE Profile washing machine, we bought the matching GE Profile dryer, because we wanted to have a matched set.

And we're still using the Sears Kenmore refrigerator that I bought brand new in July 1971. It, too, was Harvest Gold originally. I had it re-enameled in 1990, and it's now Slate Blue. Yes, I know it's absolutely NOT energy efficient, but I don't care. The darn thing works great, and we love it, so we're not going to replace it until we have to.

Norge--I also had a (used) Norge frig.

Ours was an Easy brand with a suds return. Bought probably '64 and replaced after '75 when we moved here. Mom's Whirlpool had a suds return too.

The wash water was saved in a laundry tub then drawn back to do another load. So, start with light and move on to more heavily soiled things. I know, today it's eeeewwwwww nasty.

Mine was an EASY, too.

Kenmore bought the week I brought my first baby home from the hospital and sold it 26 years later for $25. My refrigerator was a Frigidaire bought in 1970 and it lasted 32 years. Wish they still made them that good. My side by side JennAire already needed a repair after 4 years.

Before I was married, and for the first couple years, I used a laundromat. In 1981 we bought our house and it came with a Speed Queen (industrial) washer. We loved that machine. When it died we bought a Kenmore from Sears, which is still running.

I think my first washer was from a coin laundry (Maytag). Uncle picked it up at a yardsale right after I moved into my first house. Oh, how I LOVED that washer! It would spin the clothes almost completely dry. Took it to New Orleans and it finally died a year of so after we moved back to GA, I think all the hoses gave out and we were not able to get them fixed. No idea how old it was but it had "industrial" written on the front. Got the dryer from my sister-in-laws parents. No idea what brand but I couldn't leave it alone because the heating element was temperamental. Was glad to replace that thing.
