I remember my Mom reusing her tea bags and I did too, but like you they don't seem to be strong enough for two cups now.

I drink hot tea everyday, grew up that way. I thought, what a waste to use a tea bag for only one cup. I now make a small pot and save the rest for ice tea. I get about 2-3 cups out of the small pot. I let the tea bag stay in the pot for hours after my I pour my cup so it makes good ice tea.

I wonder if your brand is downsizing their teabags. We drink lots of tea and recently started buying decaf tea bags. The Tetly teabags are 2 grams for a regular teabag but 1.9 grams for a decaf one. I doubt if that's significant difference between the two but maybe years ago the teabags held more?

I use a thermal carafe when making tea, it holds about a quart, I use 2 tea bags, remove the bags when its steeped to my taste, tea stays hot for quite awhile, any left over often becomes ice tea. Since its in a closed container, I have tea for two days, but only have to boil water once, do reheat by cupful in microwave next day, I like hot tea HOT!

I find using the carafe 2 bags make a nice amount of tea but when I made it by the cup could only get 1 good cup of tea from one bag.

Tea drinker here. We rarely use bags, mostly loose. But when we do use bags, we use one per 8-10 ounce cup. We drink black teas, steep them for 4-5 minutes, and discard either the leaves or bags. If you steep it more than that the tea becomes tannic and bitter. Harney & Sons are our teas of choice. They are hands-down the best teas on this planet.

I make tea by the two or four gallon pot...depending if I'm having company...now I'm at a half caf/half decaf ratio...If on a rare occasion I want a cup of tea...I'll pour some iced into a cup and zap it...rarely do I make hot tea...but like you, I'm better the tea makers put just enough in for a one cup deal!

I put one tea bag or a rounded teaspoon of looseleaf tea in a two cup pot. I refill it after pouring the first mug and get 3 and 1/4 mugs of tea that way. And I made a tea cozy that I use to cover the pot and keep the tea warm.

Using one teabag cuts down on the caffeine this way too. I am sensitive to caffeine. Loose tea is Harney & Sons either currant or the hot cinnamon spice. I like the Stash brand of tea bags; my favorite is Jasmine Green Tea. I also love Constant Comet orange spice tea by Bigelow. A few years ago, my youngest son bought me tea for Christmas. He went to a NYC tea shoppe and bought me 1/2 to 1/4th pound of maybe 20 different teas. What a nice treat. This Christmas, my older son, who in the past has given me a tea pot with an infuser and special teas too, gave me a glass 2 cup pot and a selection of tea flower blooms. I save them to serve when someone is here to share the tea as they are so special I want others to enjoy them too. They are hand sewn tea and dried flower bundles that you pour the hot water over. Then they slowly open up and float in the middle of the pot, thus the need to have a glass pot so you can see them.

Another tea drinker here,mostly green tea and i get only one cup per bag.but if i'm having regular tea,then i can get 2 cups,(mugs) out of 1 bag.

sheilajoyce ~ We live about an hour away from Harney & Sons Tea/Tasting Room and distribution warehouse (they're in Millerton, NY). If you're interested in trying some more of their loose teas, I can send you "samples" of many of their black teas (our favorites). We don't usually go for flavored teas, but their Vanilla is delicious and their Boston is divine (a combination of cranberry and almond). We love their Russian Country (comforting), and East Frisian (heaven on a cold and wet day). We also have their Lapsang Souchong, Eight at the Fort, Supreme Breakfast Blend, All-India Blend, and Formosa Oolong.
We make the trip to their tasting room every few months and get to try as many different teas as we want, so it's easy for us to amass a wonderful collection..

Tea drinker here too..and I don't recycle my tea bags for another mug..but they do go into the compost..

But I like to have this one, then that one, then another through out the day...

I am not a coffee drinker anymore so tea is my hot beverage. I can get 2 or sometimes 3 cups out of a teabag used in a cup,not a mug. I had been drinking green tea for a couple of years and changed to Tetley black tea which makes a much stonger brew.I don't like decaf and if anyone knows of good brand of green tea please post.I could never find one with the taste I really liked that much.

I make tea by the pot. I can't get a good cup of tea using a bag in a mug. I love lose using loose tea and have a couple of pots with strainer inserts to hold the loose tea.

I don't drink herbal teas.

I am picky too with what I drink my tea out of. Tea always tastes better to me drunk out of bone china or porcelain.

Depending how strong I want my pot of tea I use either 2 or 3 bags.

My GRandma used to drink Tetley Tea. I remember her drying out her used tea bags in the sink. She got at least two cups from each bag.

I have a HUGE mug I like using for tea. One bag, one use, and I LOVE my tea that way. :)

If I plan to drink more tea, I make a pot full with two bags, and let is seep a bit longer. I get three pretty big mugs of tea that way.

I buy loose tea at Wild Oats, but most of the time I use tea bags. I use each bag only once. I must look for some of the Harney & Sons! The teas I drink the most are Choice organic, either the white tea or rooibos. In addition, I like TenRen green tea and also their oolong. I also like the Stash and Tazo brands.

I get two cups no matter where I am (restaurant or home) and no matter what type of tea. I normally buy Lipton but prefer Tetley. When I want flavored tea, ginger/peach is my favorite. If I really want more, I steep two bags in a pot and get 5 or 6 cups from it. Is it possible you are preferring it stronger and stronger? I hate strong tea when I let the bag stay in the cup of water for too long. Strong tea dries my mouth out. Then, I can't taste it anymore. LOL

We used to have (I think it was Red Rose) orange pekoe tea at home - Grandma was about the only one that drank it.

We used to tease her, for she'd put about four grains into the bottom of a cup and pour hot water over it.

After a couple of minutes, we could still see the number of grains in the bottom, and we used to ask Grandma whether she could tell any difference from straight hot water ... and didn't she think that adding one more grain might make it taste better?

I don't know whether she really preferred stronger and that was a frugal measure, or whether she preferred it like that.

DH and I are huge tea drinkers...Tetley only.
We both like our tea a bit on the strong side,so one tea-bag per cup for us,and we have to pour the boling water onto the bag and let it sit undisturbed for 2 mins to really develop the flavor.

I don't have time to read the response above, but I get 2 out of mine. I do find if I buy generic tea bags, that they aren't as strong, so if you did that, you won't get 2 out of them.

When you posted about Red Rose tea that reminded me the time I was in Canada several years ago.Really enjoyed the Red Rose tea and bought some to take home to the US.
At the border we were asked if we had anything to declare and we said Red Rose tea. Of course they didn't believe it until they checked. Am sure they thought what crazy people we were. No booze,just TEA.
