Comments (69)Our new walk-in pantry. Just over 6' x 8' in size, with 9' ceilings. Shelves are a mix of 24" deep, 12" deep and 9" deep. We have two slide out drawers under the bottom left shelf in which we put kid snacks for their easy reach. We store ALL food and small appliances in here - the only foodstuff we keep in the main kitchen are spices near the stove. Our contractor cut and painted the wood himself, and then hung all the brackets. Shelving has been braced together in the corners to keep them from separating. We love it! It's a vast improvement over the small over-stuffed closet we had before our kitchen remodel!...See MoreSmallest angle reach in pantry dimensions
Comments (10)There are interior measurements and exterior measurements. These are generally different by about 5" or so. They can be as little as 1.5" different depending on how its constructed. You need to leave yourself enough room inside to be able to maneuver, bend down or get a step stool in there to be able to go up if the shelves go all the way up. You can make it asymetrical or even flat on one wall - for instance do 4.5 feet (interior) by 36 inches (interior) with a door on the long side. 10" deep shelves on the long side and 18" deep ones on the short side. We have world's smallest angle pantry and its asymmetrical. It is 50" by 36" on the outside. I have 8" deep shelves on the long side and 12 to 24" deep stuff on the short side. It is really small in there. We don't have a door - just an opening. You can't really do a non-cabinet one of these in 36" - there just isn't room for a door or an opening. Even with cabinets crammed into a corner (think tall easy reach cabinets), it wouldn't be great because of trying to reach into the depths without rollouts through a small opening. I guess you could have a giant tower of lazy susans. In case you want to know why - something like this takes up 36" on each of two back walls, then each side moves forward towards each other by 2 feet leaving the front side about 16" long. If using frameless cabinets, you then subtract at least 1.5 inches for the cabinet side walls and another 3/4" for the cabinet door. If using framed cabinets, the subtraction becomes 3.75" for the sides and door. Even thinking pie-cut for the front, its still open only about 10-11" open on each side....See MoreHow do you reach items in your upper cabinets?
Comments (36)I sometimes have to use a step stool, but not to often---even though I'm just 5'2". I have compensated by taking advantage of the adjustable shelving. I figure out what I want on the bottom shelf and then set the shelf to just clear those things. Then I do the same on the next shelf. Therefore, the top shelf ends up lower than it normally would if it were divided in three even sections. That little bit seems to be enough for me to get a finger hold on whatever is on top and pull it off the shelf. Also, I tend to put things like drinking glasses and stacks of items on the first two shelves; the top shelf generally holds things like larger serving dishes that I can pull off the shelf if I can just reach the front edge. Your mileage may vary, depending on what you store in your upper cabinets....See MoreConverting dining room to walk-in pantry & butler's pantry
Comments (50)I am just now reading all these amazing comments. We were going to sell our 5 bedroom house and build a “smaller” 2B2B barndominium, but plans changed due to my dad getting sick and not wanting us to move away from me. So we have decided to renovate what we have and incorporate the things I wanted into this house but I have no clue where to start. This house had NO storage. We have extra rooms I want to make one a butlers pantry that connects to my kitchen and the other I want to make a master closet. Any ideas would be appreciated...See MoreSeriously
