Help choosing exterior door trim color - FAST! ;)

Hi all, I posted this on the Home Dec forum and didn't get many responses, and I'm painting this tomorrow or the next day, so I was hoping you could help me . . . quickly! ;). I'm in the middle of painting the trim around my front door and I just can decide on the color. I'm going between tan (to tie in the addition on the side of the house), and black (to balance the windows/shutters better). The front door is red. Any opinions? I painted the first coat of tan, and I don't want to finish it until I'm sure of the color. I'm really on the fence on this one. Thanks so much!

I think the tan is a good choice. Trying to think what other option I could or would go for, and really tan is the only one that is making sense to me right now.

It's a good way to bring some balance and distribute some of the tan to the other side of the house without doing a beige door too.

Down the road, I think I'd entertain painting your gutters, downspouts, house trim in the tan too. That third distribution of the tan would bring a nice, complete balance to the whole picture.

jn344's image is beautiful; reminds me of Tuscany or the Mediterranean. great with the tile roof in the picture. Since you have a shingle roof, you could also go for a contrast to accentuate the stone, maybe a silvery or grayish sage green.

thanks! grey-greens now that's an idea, I will look into it! nothing is really finished yet but I'll try and post a good shot of the kitchen and bathroom soon. the pink bathroom was definitely what clinched the place for me!

I don’t think there is any green siding. I think it is a tan or taupe color. After the rain I will get a another pic of the siding up close. I totally agree about the front porch. My sister gave me the bench before she passed so it is like gum on my shoe but maybe I could up-cycle it into something small and lighter in color. I have thought the same thing about a rug as well. Thank you so much for your suggestions. I so badly want to feel like our homes exterior makes sense and matches.

Wonderful, thank you for the photoshop. I think the black is a little strong -- I think I'm going to do tan with a black door. That way everything is tied in. Thanks so much!

You're welcome, it's a lovely home, very stately looking. The little person peeking out the door is pretty darn cute, too ;)
