Urgent question!! Latex exterior paint over Duron Maxwood stain

We are having wood siding painted on the house and the contractor and I are arguing over which paint to use. Right now the siding is painted in Duron Maxwood acrylic. It was painted 4 years ago and it already looks bad because of thinning of the paint and some cracks.

I wanted to do 1 or 2 coats of Duration latex paint on top of the Duron Maxwood but my contractor said within months the latex paint will start to peel if latex is put on top of oil. He wants to use SherwinWilliams woodscape.

Is he right? For long term purposes which is better? Latex paint or oil solid stain? Thanks so much!!

Is not maxwood an oil primer?

It is a oil/acrylic exterior stain. I called Duron store and the person there says Woodscapes could just be applied once the surface is clean.

It has more to do with the look you are going for than anything else.
The primary difference between paint & stain is the thickness of the film once dry. Stain will show everything. Paint will try to hide it.
I would not trust just any latex paint film over unprimed anything outside, especially a hi-build product which I think duration is. Just the weight of the coats can "help" the peeling.
