I have asked this very question, i do not want white trim.. would love to see other color trims done

Sorry I don't have a photo but a friend of mine has an amazing house in a historic neighborhood. She painted her walls Windham cream and her trim is a pale sagey green color. It looks fantastic and wish I had a photo. I always do white too and wish I was more creative. The feel of her house is cozy and warm.

i don't care for bright white trim or ceilings in my own home.....i have painted trim a shade or two darker or lighter than the wall color, depending on the room...but i have kept it cohesive throughout the floor....same general tones.(and in my red lr and dark sage fr the trim is the neutral creamy color of the foyer/halls) too much contrast or too much of a different color looks dated to me (ie: 80's).

In our current home, we painted the trim a dark olive, walls lighter tan. I've enjoyed it now for 12 years... but maybe now want a change. It sort of has dictated the color of our room. The rest of the house has a off white trim and that feels easier to change room colors (though we haven't lol).
I saw on the Ellen Kennon website in the pictures section some nice rooms done with a Sage trim. It looks so pretty to me. Might look at it?
Someone on here has done some really pretty bright, contrasting colors with walls and trim. Maybe search for trim colors on garden web? I can't think of her name, but it is such a warm house.

I think this application can be good...particularly in an historic, vintage or more rustic home. Our house is an 1880's farmhouse and much of the woodwork was painted by the PO in Baby Turtle ( a BIT coincidental since I'd used it years before in my Denver LR!) The foyer walls are a rich gold and look great with the BT. That said? The BT doors opening into the various color bedrooms upstairs was NOT a "good look". It was also quite dark in the hallways so those areas I re-painted off white.

I've been contemplating painting the foyer of late...the white/green combo of the wood casing on the doorways and the white of the windows/ screens against the BT kinda drives me batty. They can't be painted since they're the "tilt in" Anderson windows and it would prevent that operation.

In my Denver TV room I painted all the wainscotting, trim and bookcases in a deep swamp green and the walls were a pale gold...rest of house was off white trim.

In our ranch in CO which was again an old farmhouse, I had a mixture of a deep rusty red trim with stained cedar planking in some rooms and a rich gold trim on doors leading to the upstairs. Kitchen was a warm white.

I think it's easier to pull off in older homes where it's not so "open". It also gives more of a vintage/historic vibe.

jant, that's stunning. Love BT on trim!

When I built my new home, the walls were painted a light to medium warm tan, with the trim/doors being about 4 shades darker. It seemed to add a cozier feeling, even when there wasn't any furniture. White would have been too stark for my taste. ;o)

We had black crown molding in first home. Baseboards were still white. The window sills were also black. Even when we painted walls a light tan it looked really cool. But in the bedrooms we kept the crown white. I agree with the open plans the molding really should match. I do think in the older homes the colored trim is really nice especially with the doors done too.

The trim in all my public rooms and hallways is Ellen Kennon's Edgewood Green in a semigloss finish. I paint my ceilings colors (same or complimentary). I'm a big fan of color.
