The little lamp is wonderful!

Very nice! Goes well with the mirror, which I really like too. My first thought, seeing a little cat under it, was about how our cats always situate themselves under our lamps to heat themselves up, so you've got a very realistic still life there :)

OK. Here are the other four. Sorry the lighting isn't better. (Really good deals do not include light bulbs.) The third one in the line-up is leather.

Here is the spot I need a lamp for. I was hoping the tallest lamp would work because I think the height would help balance the room. I tried it but I don't think it works.

whenicit, your EA is going out of business, too? I wasn't surprised when mine closed - not much foot traffic when I drive by. I know they are opening another one in MN about 45 minutes from where I am now.

Here you go teacats:

#1 - Ceramic. The one I thought would work. Maybe it just needs a tall frame and plant to go with it? I like the height.

#2 - The leather one. Not bad. Kinda like it with the copper table.

#3 - Craftsman-like? I like this one but think it is too short. The shade is paper. But considering the lamp was 50% off and then another 40% on top of that, I think buying a shade is OK. (Maybe when I am looking for light bulbs.)

I am off to clean that spot to the left of the coffee table. One of dogs has terrible allergies and licks his paws in that spot. Yuck. Dog slime.

I think the last pictured lamp works the best. It has the right balance of color and style that matches the etagere that's on the other side of the sofa. :-)

Also, not sure if it's the camera angle.... it looks like the pictures all need to move to the right a bit.

I think either of the last two might work but something is not quite right for me, and I think it might be that they both could use a slightly larger shade.

I'm betting les will come in here and nail what's not working and what will! But in the meantime I'll give it a shot --

Don't know if it's the camera angle, but what doesn't work for me is that they all seem too close to the height of the table itself and they look too big for the table's diameter. The tallest one looks too tall for the sofa. Maybe try the skinny one with a little plant next to it? Or the one you love, the first one on the entry table. Definitely something is not right about the lamps, though I like them all and hope you can find another spot for them.

I don't think you need to balance the height of the étagère exactly. The dark color and bulk of the table give it a lot of balance already. I'd be inclined to put something with a square shape on that table.

I don't normally suggest changing existing accessories - because that isn't what you asked opinions about, but....... I think the higher end pictures above the sofa (specifically the one next to the lamp) is competing with the heights of the lamps. From your picture, the eye doesn't know where to go with all those varying heights.
I like the #1 Ceramic the best.

I agree with Sue...maybe a new shade is what you need. Amazing to me how lampshades so often seem like an afterthought. The manufacturers make a great lamp and then just plop a "good enough" shade on top.

I would like to see the thin one that you don't have pictured, slightly off center, with an accessory next to it ot the tall ceramic with a different shade.

Thanks everyone for all the input. I totally agree that the shades sometimes think like an after thought. I also think that accessories would help. No small plants in the house right now (that are alive anyway.)

I'm surprised no one else has brought this up. One of the MAIN things to remember about lamps next to seating pieces is that they need to be low enough (or the shade low enough anyway) so that the light bulb does not glare in the eyes of someone seated there. Doesn't matter how good something looks, IMO, if it is not functional.

If the height is right for someone sitting next to it, I like the leather one on the copper table, but it needs another small accessory or two along with it, like the picture frames you show in the later pictures.

I am wondering if arranging the pictures to form one large square with two on the top row and two on the bottom row will look better. Right now, the arrangement is as wide as the sofa. I think it's too spread out.

I also like the ceramic lamp on the second table.

I like the dark metal lamp the best - something about its lines and color seem to echo the shelving piece on the other side of the sofa. I also like the ceramic one, but on the 2nd table - its base is too similar to the base of the 1st table. And Mari is right that it may be too high for the sofa...

amy and mago, I am liking the ceramic one the more I look at it. I like that it is pulling in the color from rug.

OMG Mari, isn't that terrible that I hadn't considered if the lamp is casting the light required for the room? (At times like these, I am glad we are anonymous. lol) Actually, if I have company we are usually not in that room. More likely in the FR which if next to the kitchen. BUT, that is my favorite room to read in so lighting is important. I just tried the ceramic lamp and it works pretty well. The shade is narrow enough that the bulb won't be in anyone's eyes plus it pushes the light down for reading.

bac, I was thinking about stacking those pictures, too. OR moving them to a different room. (Lots of empty walls in my house.)

lkplatlow, I like that dark metal lamp, too. It is a lamp that I already had in the room by the chair. I think it looks pretty good on that table. Here it is next to the chair with one of the pics I bought yesterday.

Here is my other pet peeve on lamps. What is up with the cheap gold looking cords?

Hi Kelly - lots of great choices! I like the ceramic lamp on the second (copper) table and I like this last picture you posted - that looks like a nice corner (table, lamp and picture all look good. Hard to tell, but make sure that picture is not too high (is it eye level to you?) With the ceramic lamp, see if you can find one frame that is a little taller so you have some variety in heights (and especially since that lamp is so tall). Looking good - enjoy!

Hey polkadots. That is so funny that you bring up the height of the picture by the chair. I lowered it twice yesterday and after I posted the pic I was wondering if it should come down more.

I am pretty sure that I am going to move the pics over the sofa into the dining room. Thanks for the input on a taller pic.
