Do You Have A Good Recipe Using,,,,?

Do you have a good recipe using maple syrup? I have this lovely bottle from my neighbors and I want to make something special with it. Do you have a good recipe?

I'm not so sure that I would use it in a recipe. In my humble opinion, good maple syrup deserves to be allowed pretty much free reign of the taste buds. It has a fragrance and taste that can be lost when incorporated with other things in a recipe.

My choice would be Belgian Waffles or a good French toast! Yummy. Serve with your favorite breakfast meat and a fruit medley with a yogurt/honey/orange zest sauce on the side. That would be special. I grew up in maple syrup country and love love it!

Here's the recipe I make for Borscht. The Dh hates beets so I don't get to make it very often. This recipe is adapted from Mennonite Foods & Folkways from South Russia, by Norma Jost Voth. Serves 8-12. Ingredients 1 1/2 lbs boneless beef chuck or stew beef, cut into bite size chunks (I actually find that what grocery store label stew beef is very chewy (rubbery). I like to use a little better cut of meat.) 1/2 cup flour 3 quarts (12 cups) beef broth 3 medium - large beets, cooked, peeled, and diced or shredded 1 tablespoon vinegar 1/2 cup tomato paste 1 tablespoon sugar 4 tablespoons butter 2 large carrots, peeled and shredded or diced 1 onion, chopped 3 medium potatoes, cooked and cubed 1/2 small cabbage, sliced thin or shredded 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 bay leaf 1 tablespoon chopped parsley Dill weed to taste Black Pepper to taste Sour cream Dredge the beef in the flour. Melt butter in a stock pot (Dutch oven) and add beef; brown all sides of beef. In the stock pot add beets, salt, vinegar, tomato paste and sugar; stir. Add carrots and onion and sautÃÂ© until onions are translucent. Add beef broth, and all remaining ingredients except sour cream and simmer for 20 minutes. The borscht should be pleasantly tart but not sour. If sour, add another tablespoon of sugar and / or carrots until desired flavor is reached. Stir and let rest for 15 minutes (heat off). Place in individual bowls and top each with a dollop of sour cream.

I love maple and use it in many things. I really like the maple shortbreads and Ann T's maple fudge, and I use maple syrup in my pumpkin pie and drizzle it on sweet potatoes when I bake them and use it on my oatmeal and instead of honey on biscuits. I use it in my maple oatmeal bread too. I use maple syrup a lot, but this recipe is my all time favorite dessert: Individual Maple Pear Cobblers Courtesy of: Rebecca Rather, Chef, Rather Sweet Bakery and Cafe 6 servings 3 pounds pears, peeled, cored, quartered 2/3 cup + 9 tablespoons pure maple syrup 2 tablespoons + 1 1/2 cups flour 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder 9 tablespoons whipping cream melted butter sugar to taste nutmeg to taste For the filling, combine the pears, 2/3 cup syrup, 2 tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg in a bowl and mix well. Divide evenly among 6 custard cups or soufflé dishes. Place a pat of butter on top of each one. Bake at 425 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes or until heated through. For the topping, place the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg in a food processor. Add 6 tablespoons butter and pulse until fine crumbs form. Add the cream, 9 tablespoons syrup and 1 teaspoon vanilla and process until combined. Drop by spoonfuls onto the hot filling. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar and nutmeg. This is the one I have used many times. It is yummy plain or with a fruit topping. We never have enough left to freeze so I can't answer that question. You will find the nut crust quite unusual. Source Copykat Recipe Crust 121/4 C. Finely Chopped Pecans 1/4 C. Finely Chopped Almonds 1/4 C. Finely Chopped Walnuts 3/4 C. Finely Chopped Vanilla Wafers 2 Tbsp. Melted Butter 9" Springpan (coat lightly with butter) Mix all nuts and vanilla wafer crumbs with melted butter and press in the buttered spring pan, trying to line the sides as much as possible about 1 1/2" up the sides of the pan, set aside. Filling 1 1/2 lb. Cream Cheese 1 1/3 C. Sugar 5 Large Eggs 16 oz. Sour Cream 1/4 C. Flour 2 tsp. Vanilla 2 tsp. Lemon Juice All above ingredients should be at room temperature before your begin. Methods/steps Start by beating the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Keep the mixer on a low setting throughout the beating and mixing process. Add the sugar a little at a time and continue beating until creamy. Add one egg at a time and beat after each egg. When eggs have been mixed into the cream cheese add flour, vanilla and lemon juice, mix well. Add the sour cream last and beat well. Pour cream cheese into the spring pan. Place on the top rack in the middle of a 325 degrees preheated oven for one hour and 15 minutes. When time is up, prop open oven door and leave in oven for one hour. After one hour, remove from oven. Let cool enough before the cheesecake is put into the refrigerator for 24 hours. A cheesecake should season. The wait is worth it. The flavor ripens and becomes enriched.

This is alte but delicious for any event. My neighbor gave me this recipe and I made it for a friends shower last sunner. It was the hit of the party! Everyone wanted the recipe. A little different, but very good. I used boneless chx breast. Millionaire Chicken Makes 4 main-dish servings 1 whole 2-to-3 pound chicken (or bone-in chicken breasts) 1/2 head iceberg lettuce (or other crisp salad green) Sauce A: 1/4 cup soy sauce 2 tablespoons honey 1 clove garlic, minced Sauce B: 3 tablespoons peanut or corn oil 2 scallions (green onions), chopped 4 nickel-size slices fresh ginger root, peeled and minced 1/2 teaspoon whole Sichuan peppercorns, slightly crushed 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper Garnishes: About 1/2 carton cherry tomatoes, for garnish 1 small can whole water chestnuts, for garnish Poach chicken in simmering water until done. Cool, remove skin and bones, and cut meat into bite-size pieces. Arrange over shredded lettuce on a large platter. Combine ingredients for Sauce A in a small bowl; mix well and let stand for at least five minutes. I agree with rhizo........It would be a real shame to put it in something that you won't really be able to appreciate the syrup. I don't know if you are a waffles or pancake person but that's for sure where I would start.

I am a french toast person, although I do like pancakes and waffles are 3rd on my list. I was thinking of baking something as they told us my grade of syrup was best for that. I don't know.

Sue, I do, as a matter of fact. Haven't made it in a long time because of the price of maple syrup. Right now I can't remember the name of it, but I will go through my recipes and try to find it. If I do I will post it.

Just as a topping is my preference. I seldom buy it because of the price. I'm such a cheap-skate.

But over my French toast, or sour cream pancakes. YUM

They say that it's a good idea to spoil yourself, on occasion - even if only a little bit ...

... to splurge a bit!

Go get yourself some maple syrup, on occasion - and don't feel guilty about it!

ole (frugal) joyfuelled ... (with a bit o' help from maple syrup, on occasion)

P.S. I agree, to use it as a topping, e.g. with waffles, French toast, or pancakes - which allows one to enjoy the full flavour and fun of it.

soak some walnuts in syrup and pour over ice cream...YUM.

I don't know what it tastes like, as it is still sealed in the bottle, just going by what the folks that made it told Amber to tell me. Nothing telling the grade on the label. They told her her bottle was for table use as it was lighter I think.

I like to make a marinade for fresh salmon.....a little soy, a little maple syrup, some fresh parsley and a little bit of lemon juice.
Then I sear the salmon in a hot frying pan and finish it off in the oven.

There are grades of Maple Syrup, here in Ontario. They run from light, medium and amber.

The light-coloured ones are from the first or early runs, and is more delicate flavour, so good for toppings on pancakes, ice cream etc.

The Medium and Amber grades and colour have a stronger more pronounced maple flavour and are good for glazes, and baking.

This is a recipe my DSis does all the time. She and her DH love it! I haven't tried because my DH doesn't like salmon.

"This is the best and most delicious salmon recipe, and very easy to prepare. I love maple in everything and put this together one night. My husband totally loved it; he did not like salmon that much until he had this."

Original Recipe Yield 4 servings
Ingredients

1/4 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt (optional)
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 pound salmon
Directions
In a small bowl, mix the maple syrup, soy sauce, garlic, garlic salt, and pepper.

Place salmon in a shallow glass baking dish, and coat with the maple syrup mixture. Cover the dish, and marinate salmon in the refrigerator 30 minutes, turning once.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven, and bake salmon uncovered 20 minutes, or until easily flaked with a fork.

You should try it on pancakes or waffles. Then you can decide whether you want to use it in cooking.

I love real ample syrup and haven't bought pancake syrup in years. Just today I restarted a healthy eating plan (hate to call them diets)and was so happy to see that when I did the math my real syrup comes in close in calories to the so called lite stuff I used to use. Real maple syrup is flavorful so I don't use as much. Had a frozen waffle for breakfast, measured out a tablespoon and used the dip method. Only needed about 1/2 tablespoon. My waffle,syrup,cottage cheese and fruit breakfast came out to
275 calories and left me sated until my snack.
