I am out of the loop here. What kind of granite cleaner is this? Is it for stains? I thought granite didn't stain... just marble.

I haven't heard anything about the old formula coming back. I have switched to multi-surface pledge (not the natural kind).

Not for stains just gave the granite a nice cleaning and polish.

Wait, Method changed its daily granite cleaner? Uh oh. I have been using the one labeled granite and marble, but my bottle is probably over a year old. Can you tell us what was wrong with the new formulation? Damage to the surface (granite or marble)? Doesn't clean as well? Residue?

Here is a thread that made many of us aware that the formula had changed. I never used the new stuff only the old. I did compare labels and it differently changed.

Ugh. I got two bottles of Method not long ago - seemed like a good price. As a newcomer to granite countertops, I still don't know much about the different cleaners for granite.

Oh well - it seems okay, other than that strange scent (pink grapefruit?). I'll keep the lights in the kitchen on low if I find it does streak. And - I just used to to clean fingerprints off the walls - excellent results! Maybe a decent all purpose cleaner?

There is a Formula 409 for granite that seems to work well. It's a good price, not the stink of pink grapefruit...

You can check on the health concerns for many household cleaning products on the Environmental Working Group website.

EWG gives Method Granite Cleaner (apple orchard fragrance) a grade of "C" -- not too bad compared to other cleaning products. The grade is as low as it is largely because of the potential toxins in the fragrance.

I used to use the Method Granite Cleaner, but since I ran out I have been using homemade granite cleaner and it works great! The recipe pops up here and on Pinterest every so often, I use 2/3 water, 1/3 alcohol and about 20 drops of lavender oil. When I first started using it, my husband noticed the difference right away, asked me if I had polished the counters! I also use it on my Silgranit sink. Now if I could just find something natural that works as well for my ceramic cooktop!

For our ceramic cooktop I am using pure, white vinegar in a spray bottle and it cleans amazingly well. But it's induction, so nothing really bakes on. On the counters I'm using either rubbing alcohol or Method, depending on what's been on them. I had not noticed the Method had changed, honestly. That may say something about my housekeeping . . .

I always post about the alcohol water spray! Love it for my granite and on my SS appliances. I use anywhere from 1/2-2/3 alcohol, 1/3-1/2 water, and 20+ drops of essential lavender oil (for fragrance and additional antibacterial quality). Basically I go by scent, and evaporation rate, lack of streaking after refilling or topping off my spray bottle, and adjust amounts as needed (if it smells "right" and cleans without streaking, it's good to go!). I spray it on, and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth.

It's great on the black enamel burner pans on our Wolf range as well (for light cleaning, or follow-up after scrubbing with soap and/or BKF), and on our glass backsplash tile and grout. Over the range, I spray it on, let sit a few minutes, and wipe with a paper towel (or cloth). Does a good job loosening and lifting vented cooking grease and grime from the range from the grout. I repeat spraying and wiping a few times as needed.

I'm not a germophobe but I was interested in your comment about lavender oil and its antibacterial properties, so I looked it up -- very interesting. I'm going to try it (it's also got to be much less expensive than All Purpose Windex with Vinegar).

I use a homemade mix with alcohol like the one posted above on my Steel Gray granite. I hesitate to use it on my White Diamond as the fabricator said to use alcohol sparingly as it would eat thru the sealer.

Anyone know more about the effects alcohol has a sealers?

what kind of alcohol is being used in the homemade recipe? rubbing alcohol from the first aid aisle?

I use a water/white vinegar mix. Same thing with windows and mirrors. No streaks, ever!
