I have Castelinna Blend travertine in my kitchen & back room in a random pattern & I love it. I think the 4-piece random pattern is similar (or the same) as a Versailles pattern. Sizes are 8x8 (10%), 8x16 (10%), 16x16 (38%) and 16x24 (42%). The tile company (Virginia Tile) gave me a sheet for the tile installer with the pattern for the layout. The cost for just the installation was the same as the cost for the materials, installation & finish for an oak floor. So in other words, I could get oak floors or I could get just the installation of the travertine (and I had to pay for the materials - which was $$).

I know splash material of the Versailles pattern on 13x13 sheets is $18.50 per sheet plus install.

Looks great: in my opinion. Far from "boring" installed tile for flooring!

anne - love your floors! Your picture makes me want the travertine even more. They look very similar to the scabos color I saw in a showroom. Thanks for sharing cost info; very helpful. Are those soapstone counters that I see in your kitchen?

petra - any recommendation on granite choices that would go with cherry cabs, travertine floor and stainless appliances? TIA

jamms - I know someone who has similar travertine to mine in the random pattern & I always loved it, so that is why I felt confident spending the big bucks for it. My counters are soapstone & the island is carrara marble. My island is cherry (with a 'cognac' stain).

Haven't "seen" Chiefneil in a long time, but I do remember he had it in his kitchen. It's not set in a Versailles pattern, but it's beautiful! If I recall, he has Bianco Romano on the perimeter and Blue Bahia on the island.

It's definitely the pattern look I like with the travertine; I could see using any of the three colors.

Anne - great kitchen! You mixed a lot of different elements; cherry & white cabs/island, soapstone & granite, travertine and stone or subway?? backsplash (hard to tell from pic). Were you nervous about it all coming together or did you have help designing it all? We are building a new house (our 2nd build) and the decisions are overwhelming. How is the maintenance with the floors? Do you have to seal them every year? TIA

jamms - thanks for the compliment. I have an older home & was just doing the kitchen & new back room. I also did lots of exterior work (like a new garage since it was in the way of the addition). All the decisions can definitely be overwhelming & I did not have a designer. I have lots of materials in the kitchen & I did worry about it looking like someone threw up in there, but it all worked out fine (for me). A lot of the decisions were compromises with my husband. I would have done a brown-tone island & a off-white subway but he had to have his say. I am happy at how it all turned out.

There are a couple cleaning products for the travertine floors that I bought from the tile store (made by Miracle Seal). I can't remember how often I need to re-seal but the gal who sold it to me has the same floor in her kitchen & she hasn't resealed in like 5 years & it still looks great. So it may depend on the wear & tear.

anne - wow, I can't believe that is the same kitchen/house! You did an amazing job putting it all together, how exciting for you! Like you, I also have to compromise with my DH even though it is my kitchen LOL!

Thanks for the maintenance info. I've heard conflicting stories regarding resealing; from 1 year to 15 years. It is great to have this forum to "speak" to people who actually have some experience.

I have travertine floors in the Versailles pattern in most of my house. Here is a picture of it in the kitchen.

Sally 123; just saw your post; love your kitchen. Your floors look beautiful! What color is your travertine? My cabs will be a little darker than yours I believe. I like how you did lighter floor/counter and backsplash with the darker cabs. TIA
