Granite vs Stainless Steel Sinks

Here's my question. The majority of my appliances will be stainless steel. The cooktop will be black glass. Granite is typhoon bordeaux. Thought we'd go for a C-TEC stainless sink but saw the Blanco Diamond granite sinks in black today....Not sure which to go with now.... Decision time ! Does anyone have any history with either sink ? Is the Blanco Diamond granite sink really as stain and scratch resistant asa they say ????

I'm also looking at the Blanco Silgranit sinks. If you type Silgranit in the search box, you'll find many positive reviews.

I have the the Silgranit in white, and I love it except for the whiteness which has stained since 2006 when it went in. It looks like it's the same as what they're now calling the Diamond, in the 1 3/4 size. I use the smaller side as a dish drainer (so no drainer on the countertop.) I've got a garbage disposal in the large side, and the dishwasher on that side. It's deep enough to be able to wash big pots. It's gotten a big rough around the drain but I cook a lot with cast iron and I don't baby the sink whatsover.

If I had it to do over I would get another one, but in black or grey.

Like sjhockeyfan, I have a Kraus undermount sink, (KBU14) 30inch. I have had mine in since November 2013 and I'm very happy with it. It is indeed very quiet and the finish is nice. I especially like the stainless grid that comes with it. (a lot of sinks don't come with the grid, you have to buy it separately). The grid is heavy duty and saves wear and tear on sink bottom. My Mom has the Kraus KBU12 for 1.5 years and loves hers too. They are easy to maintain and the quality is very good for the price you pay. We both got ours from Amazon. The packaging that it comes shipped in is over -the -top protection, nice to see a company take the extra time and money to ship their product perfectly protected. We were both impressed. The Kraus was far superior to the sink we could have gotten through our quartz fabricator. Hope this helps you decide. :)

We were all set to buy a Blanco granite sink until we saw one in an appliance shop which is also used for kitchen demonstrations. It was discolored with what looks like water stains and/or hard water marks. The SS sink we have has certainly seen better days. I don't much like the hollow sound of the SS sink. Then we saw the Kohler cast iron with that 'crakled' emamel finish and we both decided that was the one. We ordered one which arrived Friday but has some damage... so maybe the moral of the story is there is no perfect sink, they are all a compromise of some sort. I still like the cast iron, but it weighes 125 pounds!

I just wanted to clarify a comment that Suzannes1 said above, "Silgranite would be worth investigating, although I don't prefer a dark colored sink". Please note that Silgranit comes in a number of colors including white and biscuit. See my link above to a Silgranit sink in the color biscuit which is a creamy and softer white than their "white". I think it may seem that Silgranit only is dark because so many people on this forum have chosen one of the dark Silgranit colors like Anthracite or Cafe Brown. That's because those colors show nothing, even if you spill red wine or spaghetti sauce, and also cause the dark color can look real sharp against granite. Our anthracite sink looks great with our Alaska White granite, and it seems to make the polished chrome of our professional-style faucet gleam more in contrast. Still no comment on the choice of a 3-bowl sink?

I bought a 36" Americast double sink because it had the shape I wanted -- little 'blip' outward on the larger side, so it fits two 12" pans. It's now 14 years old -- no heavy use in two-adult home. I've had one small chip -- now invisible with the white 'paint' you can buy for this. However...the 'finish' is dulling, whereas my Kohler prep sink is smooth as new. I use only Bon Ami on *everything* in the house. (Can with the little chick and the saying, "Hasn't scratched yet.") Never use abrasives like Comet or Ajax. A spray with Clorox Cleanup eliminates any grey marks.

I have the Blanco Precis Super Single in the black and I LOVE it!! I wash all pots and pans in the sink instead of the DW so lots of banging going on. No scratches, dents, or stains. Easy to clean-just a simple wipe up at the end of the day. One of the best decisions I made for the kitchen.

I will link an older thread where people discuss the stainless or silgranit decision. I also think the anthracite color (or black, as you described it) is very sharp. Also, be aware that Silgranit has been updated to Silgranit II, which Blanco says is even easier to clean.
