Which Cabinet Brands Offer Deeper/15'' Uppers?

We are having our lower cabinets be 3" deeper than the standard 24" depth. We are just going to buy standard 24" cabinets, but pull them out from the wall an additional 3", and have 27" deep countertops made. However, we do not know cabinet brands that offer uppers that are 15" deep (except for custom). We do not want to go custom. This is going to be a mostly DIY kitchen (not the counters or electrical, but practically everything else), and on a pretty small budget. Frameless too. Are there any brands, not high-end but middle-to-low-end, that make 15" deep upper cabinets as a standard offering? Thank you.

You could buy cabinets that are standard 24" depth or narrower and cut them to size, reassemble, redrill shelf supports. Not sure if it is economical, but maybe?

I did exactly what you are planning to do using Fieldstone semi custom cabinets. I pulled one 24" deep base cabinet three inches from the wall and secured it all the way across. I left a space for our 30" range then installed an 18" deep base cabinet to avoid costly structural changes and secured this to the wall. I installed 15" deep uppers leaving 36" for a chimney hood. One upper has a chase so it goes around that structural arch. I chose this line of cabinets b/c it is semi custom at a reasonable price. I used maple and did not go with a glaze to make them affordable.

I am short (5'1"). I tried playing with how it would feel to have 30" deep counters. Using my range I am reminded of why it wouldn't be a good idea for me. The range is 28.5 inches deep. I have to really stretch to clean the back guard and it isn't as far away as the wall. I think I would go with the deeper uppers if you don't mind things getting lost in the rear of them. Reaching over 30" counters to a 12" upper would be fruitless for me. As it is now I can only reach the front row of glasses on the second shelf of my 12" over 24" cabs now. I do wonder what prevents you from putting in a full height pantry on the 18 foot wall? That's a nice long space.

Great thread! Aloha, why not consider lift-up, tambor or other garage-style doors at counter level? We don't want it all the way around the room, but we're thinking of doing the same thing in two corners: 30"-deep bases, 15"-deep uppers from counter to ceiling but with the first 18" (vertical) of uppers having lift-up doors to hide appliances, canisters, etc.. (We want more than the standard 12" between counter and upper to accommodate taller items.) To fori and writersblock's concerns: The lift-ups won't have the swing-out issues of regular doors (nor the same issues of shallow drawers between base and uppers, which I often see in "inspiration" magazines, but don't understand for the same reasons fori and weritersblock mention). When the lift-up is closed, 15" of counter in front. Open, it's 30" deep of counter space!

Generally, anything bigger than the "standard" depth cabinet is a custom size. If you are working through a company that carries well known cabinet lines , it will cost a lot to have deeper cabinets made, since they have to be custom made. Most large cabinet manufacturers buy the boxes already made. You can probably do better by finding a local cabinet maker, especially if they make their own boxes. Then you can get them any depth you want.

my custom cabinet guy makes them slightly deeper than standard as his standard... mainly he does it to fit 12 inch plates. it is a nice. regarding custom the sky is the limit, both in possiblities and price. Some things are "cheap" to change, and some are not, and some have unintended consequences. we pulled the base cabinets out from teh wall on our fridge wall to about 28 or 30, I forget. its only 1 cabinet, we didn't make it bigger, we actually just spaced it out. you still have to move the corner cabinet over, making that run shorter. other things that we didn that were "custom" we have the fridge next to a pantry, A) the cover panel for the fridge comes out to the front of the fridge, whcih stock ones don't do. we also had the pantry made to come out to the front of the fridge, so its 30 inches deep. We also made it open from the side, so its 14inches, by 30, opening on the 30. what this did is save us from having a pull out pantry, which costs about $1K for a nice one for the pull out unit, and we see everything in the pantry as the shelves aren't deep, but are wide. Also, go with big crown... go big or go home... it costs more, but in the grand scheme generally not that much "more" than 3 inch on a whole kitchen. the function is definately one reason to go custom and a big reason, but the build up crown, to the ceiling cabinets is the more visable side of "custom".

I know you said you did not want to go custom, but our custom cabinets cost less than the quotes at Lowes, HD, etc.

We recently finished a comlete kitchen remodel using Thomasville cabinets. The uppers were ordered in 15" depth.
The depth could be ordered in 1" increments

You can order many semi-custom lines with varying depths, but it will cost you a good deal more. I agree - it's worth pricing out cabinet makers as well because that could end up costing less.

For frameless, you could check out crown point - they're frameless line isn't cheap, but it's probably worth pricing because they are very accomodating on sizes.

Brookhaven and Woodmode offer 13" uppers as standard and they can be ordered in 15". My hutch uppers are 15s.

Thanks everyone. We are on a small budget, and since, as I mentioned, we are doing a lot of DIY, we are also thinking of RTA (ready-to-assemble) cabinet companies. Unfortunately, Brookhaven, Woodmode and Crown Point are out of our price range. We are also going to look at Scherr's.

We have Thomasville cabinets and all of the uppers are 15" deep.
It was an upcharge, but SO worth it in the long run for the extra depth.

You can increase the depth of Shenandoah Cabinetry through Lowes. It is more costly than the standard 12" but depending on how many uppers you have it might not be that bad. Can I ask, what's the reason for wanting a 27" countertop?

Omega Dynasty also offers 15" deep cabinets (we have them), but they are semi-custom and may also be out of your price range.

I wish we could have had deeper counters, but b/c of several factors were unable to.

Alwaysfixin...if you're pulling the base cabinets 3" out from the wall and getting a standard counter overhang of 1-1/2", then you will actually have 28-1/2" counters...even better!

Transitional...deeper counters are great for added workspace...you'd be surprised the difference just 3" makes in work space! One of our peninsulas has a 27" deep counter and it seems a lot deeper than the standard.
