Can I glaze painted black cabinets? Color suggestions?

Hello,

I recently painted my light oak cabinets black. I like them but feel they are a bit too black and flat. They have a little bit of detail to them, does anyone know if you can glaze them and if so color/glaze material ideas?

I've seen dark red on black, often on fake antique Chinese furniture. What about distressing instead--sand off some of the black? You'd probably want to stain the exposed oak afterwards or it'd be too light, but it might be fun (for YOU to do...heh heh).

You could also do a grey -- it would be lighter instead of darker.

I just had my cabinet doors done in Benjamin Moore "lambskin." It's a creamy off white color and I love it. My painter said he thinks BM paints are the best out there. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

I also like African Ivory. I think I have similar colored cabinets (linen white with a brown glaze). I am going with granite named Versus. I have also seen it as Aurus. The bundles vary in color drastically. Some are more gold, some are more beige/tan and others kind of look grey. During my search, I also liked Yellow River which is not as "yellow" as it sounds. If I can figure out how to post a photo, I will!
