I also really liked "Hidden Potential". Wish they'd bring that one back. I saw some reruns recently that we never saw.

Designers' Challenge always bugged me, because he only states the budget once in each show. If you miss it, you miss it. I usually heat the repetitive nature of most DIY/decorating shows, but this is one case where a little repetition would help! That being said, I always liked the show because it was real designers using real (proper) budgets and working on a normal completion timeframe.

Jakabedy, That bugged me too! I rarely "sit" to watch a program as I'm multi-tasking so I always missed the budgeted amount and would have to rewind.

At least these re-re-reruns of DC were a break from the "House Hunters" genre.

Did anyone else like that show where they recreated a designer room on a budget? I can't recall the name, but I loved that they could take a super high end room, and with inspiration pieces, make it feel like the original.

Add me to the sick of HGTV programs! I LIKED the old shows where they showed you how to do something, not just brief, choppy clips of a designer doing it. But then, I'm a big time DIYer.

Pesky, I believe the show was called "Sensible Chic."

I also liked "Sensible Chic"! You would think with the economy being bad, that these types of shows would make a comeback since so many of us have no plans to move but want to improve our current home.

The shows I like best are the ones in which you're watching three choices being made; it's a game for the viewer. So I love Designer's Challenge and like Househunters (especially International Househunters). Favorite designers are Candice Olson and Sarah Richardson. However, Candice irritates the heck out of me with her fake jokiness and constant mugging - and there is something about Sarah that seems phony. I do love Sarah's assistant, though.

Also love Bang For Your Buck, because design choices are actually discussed with some intelligence. I don't care about the Bang so much as beautiful rooms over which the camera actually lingers.

Like so many others here, I can't stand those instant redos for sale and "we have to get it done in two days, let's slap some beige over this red paint and make the place look like PB without the charm."

About Househunters. If I were still raising children I would entice them into watching HH with me sometimes. I am by no means a "politically correct" person, but that program is the most multiculturally diverse show on TV, and for a young person to watch it - with no one making instructive comments - just to watch it - is an education in how this country has evolved and what is "normal". On HH you see every race and mix of races, sexual preference, religion (ministers and rabbis looking for homes near their churches and synagogues, with plenty of room for gatherings), income level (the single mom with 3 kids who finally has her own home and is just happy that the Formica countertops aren't cracked), whatever you want. That aspect of HH makes me very happy. I also love seeing different parts of the country and, with International HH, of the world. Forget the Caribbean and Costa Rica, now IHH has been to Turkey, Israel, Egypt, India and Vietnam, and that's sort of exciting.

sable ca - I'm with you on International House Hunters. If it's a "tropical" locale of some kind, I just skip it. I think growing up in a beach town has left me with an aversion to anything connected to a palm tree or a hint of coconut flavor. I really like the others, from the ruined farm house in Provence to the $700/sq. ft. apartment in Tokyo. I especially like the ones in places I'd never think to go, like Hungary, Malta or Czech Republic. I haven't seen any of those in the new locales you've listed. Maybe I'll Tivo new episodes, because I usually only catch the show when I'm flipping channels before bed.

I wish they'd bring back Landscapers' Challenge as well.

Yes to Landscapers Challenge, and all the other landscaping programs where you actually learned something about that art. Now all you see is the occasional planting of annuals in order to sell a house.

Just yesterday I was thinking about all the great quilting shows that used to be on HGTV. Quilting, crafting, decorating, gardening...I MISS those days. Now it's no longer HGTV, but the real estate channel....
