Snapping onesies

Are there any tricks for snapping the onesies of active 14 month olds after diaper changes? She moves around so much now it is a challenge.

No special tricks, but at 14mos she's probably old enough to listen and learn the words "hold still" long enough for you to button. She probably gets a kick out of watching you sweat it out. Mine did. I finally got just stern enough with her telling her to not wiggle that after a couple of times she held still long enough to snap and then we played!

I didn't have a changing table with my DD (currently 26 months) so when she was going through that super wiggly stage I would hold her arms down with my legs-- just to get her diaper on! She thought diaper changes were a game, I guess, and that it was her job to run away... :)

It does get better once they understand that you will play with them later, but right now they need a diaper!

Sorry about your storm- so heartbreaking! We've just come out of 4" of rain and heavy breezes but I only lost one to toppling and uprighted it, pretending nothing ever happened :) We'll see how the plant 'pretends' in the next couple days. So far, so good. Several years ago, I had one break off below ground and just mulched it well until digging time. Don't recall any re-sprouting, but the tubers kept well and I'm still growing progeny from that very plant today. There was some pink discoloration in the broken underground stalk parts, but nothing that went into the tubers at all. If I recall, that break happened sometime in late September and they easily kept a few weeks until October/Novembering digging. One tip: mark where the stalk WAS so you know about where to start digging, if you dig the tubers up. You can also cover broken, gaping stalks with aluminum foil to prevent water from entering. The leaf node cut is another great suggestion, Jroot, as they are often natural barriers to water falling from sky entering deeply into the plant. I would let your tubers mature as long as possible underground and then dig up as usual, or leave/protect as usual.

Hi Kiki, welcome to roses. You can put coffee grounds on your roses just about any time except down in the fall. They are a nitorgen source that is good for the roots, stems, and blooms. But you should not fertilize in fall with nitrogen because that will encourage top growth and blooms. Then if you get a freeze, you'll lose all that new growth and could lose the canes as well. In fall it's best to not fetilize, but maintain the watering schedule to encourage root development. Cheryl

Embroidering on a onesie?

Cutaway is used inside any garment that will touch your skin. Such as tees and sweatshirts. It is soft on the skin, no yukky scratching is what I use. You can also use tulle on top were you will be embroidery.When I hooped my grandsons were they snap at I put one in side the hoop to hold it and then I rolled up the back and and hooped it to hold it in place. I also played around with the design on trial so I knew what area I was going to embroider and hoop the onesie.The tulle gives it a cute background and keeps the embroidery thread from sinking in the onesie.

Buy larger size, one family I nannied she got alot of sleepers,etc. that her youngest son got at her baby shower and we kept changing him so he would actually wear and one was really long and yet when we said lets try it his toes are at the end and couldn't wear them long, they grow fast. What is really nice buy toddler clothes if you know if its a boy or girl. The baby equipement and such are extremely high prices, the car seats alone now a days are huge and like $300 and up and strollers and highchairs, all those things now. The best for parents to do is buy second high, join toy library where they sign for toys for however long its agreed and return it so kids get different toys. Instead buy books, that is so needed, read and be with the child in learning stage but enjoying it. I agree don't buy mobiles or things that parents decorate their babies rooms.

As many of the posters said, distraction is probably your best bet..I always have a basket of small objects for my son to hold, special ONLY FOR DIAPER CHANGING TIME.

And like one poster said, this is the perfect age to use the words HOLD STILL, WAIT UNTIL MOMMY IS DONE, talk to your baby like a person. They understand a LOT more than you think! A toddler this age can begin to understand rules and the word NO! DOn't be afraid to use it.

Mary T..I do the same. When my son is wiggling around, I stretch his legs out flat on the floor, and lightly put mine over his. Gives me just enough time to snap the Onsie before he wiggles free.

My son is now 2 and I still have to distract him to change his diaper. I just let him bring one of his cars with him and he plays the whole time. He doesn't even realize what I am doing...

Yours is 14 months so may be too late for you but in case it helps someone else:

A Routine is key.

With snapping onesies, clipping fingernails, etc., I started when she was an infant singing Twinkle Twinkle (or ABC song). It got her to focus on something other than what I was doing. It got so routine and familiar to her, that I never had any trouble with these sometimes daunting tasks.
She's 4 now, and she'll start singing twinkle twinkle when she sees me get the clippers out! :-)

I had to laugh at "hold still"; those exact words make my 16mo dd move & wiggle even more! I even tried "help mommy change your diaper by holding still" ~~~ useless. Same goes for clipping nails; I can only get it done when she naps. It got so bad that I carry clippers with me, hoping she falls asleep in the carseat, so when I get home, and she's still sleeping, I snip away. Not so much fun in the winter of course, but it works for me! I have no tips for snapping the onesies, just patience, which I have little of, and holding her down while trying to snap them. It's never easy...

I stopped using onesies and use the regular t-shirts instead. I also tend to dress my son in outfits that are easy to pull down when changing his diaper. I'm trying to simplify my life without all those snaps!! hee, hee.
