The leaves and flowers are the parts used medicinally and for culinary purposes. Do not use borage while pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you suffer from epilepsy or schizophrenia. Touching the Borage plant can cause dermatitis in those with sensitive skin. Recommended for external use only. Avoid excessive or long-term use. It's important to take note of which parts of any plant are used. If you don't see mention of any part in any remedies or discussion, then don't use them. You don't need to know why (although you might be curious!) - just don't use them.

My gosh. I thought I was the only one in the world, and here you all are! I'm 55. I had an hysterectomy when I was 41 and my ovaries removed at 43. I have been on estrogen only HRT since I was 44 with no issues. I had a normal mammogram six months ago. I started taking methotrexate for arthritis six months ago and my extremely sore and swollen breasts seemed to start when I moved to the higher doses of that drug. I even had some evidence of lactation from my right breast. My GP ordered hormone tests and they all came back in the normal range except SHBG which is a protein that binds to sex hormones to carry them around in the blood stream. I also had a mammogram which showed enlarged ducts with some debris. (My boobs are trashed after breast-feeding five kids but nothing they did is anything on this pain and tenderness.) I missed a couple of doses of methotrexate (taken weekly) and my breast pain seemed to start to diminish. I also stopped my HRT because I was so desperate for some relief. After a month, the pain has substantially subsided but I still have a residual tingly burn and they haven decreased much in size. I am yet to have repeat hormone tests or a repeat mammogram. I will try the flaxseed recommended above and post anything else that changes.

I need really good advice! My baby is now 4 months and has had thrush since he was only 3 weeks. I've tried just about everything I know. Nystatin, gention violet, vinegar water, baking soda water, those things just don't work. And I wash my nipples after each feeding and apply clotrimazole cream. I'm also using probiotics with 42 billion active cells per capsule 3 capsules a day, and I've been giving baby some as well. My daughter had the exact same problem and delt with it for over a year then we went to Mexico for vacation and I saw a doctor there and he gave me metronidazole for her, 3 weeks of that and her thrush was gone. But the docs here in Canada won't give anything but Nystatin. Can anyone help me?

Babies who nurse don't get as many bubbles as those who don't (HEck I forgot I was even suppose to burp babies with my first for the first week..oops) So if you get a burp, great, if you don't..don't sweat it..it's not like formula where you get those bubbles in it!!! Sleeping babies can burp up a bubble if there is one, so if one won't come up, he doesn't seem gassy, etc, he probably isn't. Sounds like he's sleeping well, he isn't getting bubbles, so just doesn't need to burp as much as other babies who swollow a lot of air. My kids always fell asleep while nursing...it's hard work getting that milk out of that nipple, not like the bottle that's easy. Let him sleep. No he will not always need food every time he goes to bed, just now that he's little..as all babies do. Maybe at a year or so he'll start to go to bed without his night time feeding, you'll know...right now ENJOY YOUR BONDING TIME. Don't sweat anything. If he's falling asleep easily...personally, let him. If you feel you MUST keep him awake (why you feel you must I don't know unless you read that somewhere) less clothing so he's uncomfortable, play with his feet so he's uncomfortable will help (why would you want to make him uncomfortable?) A sleeping baby is a content baby. A content baby is a happy baby. A nursing content baby is wonderful!! Vickey-MN
