picture frame mouldings

I am redoing our master bedroom which is 22 x 15 withh 8 ft ceilings. I would like to use mouldings on the wall...I'm not sure what this look is called.

The linnk below will take you to the bedding I have on order and if you look at the matching drapery picture you can see the moudling I am talking about.

My question is..can I use this decorative feature in my room..

How many and how should they be spaced

Do you have to use this idea with chair rail or raised panels below

We are also considering crown moulding at the ceiling

Has anyone done this in their bedroom? Can you share pictures please?

Someone does have these kinds of moldings and has posted pictures before, so maybe she'll see this. I wouldn't add them if you don't already have them, but that is just my preference. I would go with crown molding, but not a chair rail or picture frame moldings in a bedroom. I suspect people will want to see pictures in order to make recommendations for you.

The bedding is pretty, btw!

Lowes and maybe HD carry pre made wall frames in the trim and moulding section.

Well, knew this was a rather obscure sort of question, but have been amazed to learn of all the talents and varied expertise so many of you have,so I thought I'd throw it out there. From what I've read, the rectangular placement is best for a small room and gives a feeling of movement. This might not apply so much with the height of the tall four poster. Not a biggie. what I've learned from all of our moulding and added trimwork jobs is that it's hard to go very wrong, and that most all rooms are improved by it.... even if not perfectly done.

Faux Wainscoting (picture frame moulding) HELP

We are going to have picture frame wainscoting put in our bathroom, so I've been researching it. Looking at your pictures, I would not do it in your bathroom. You will have major problems with the bullnose corners and especially the curved wall. I can't even imagine doing it. If it were my room, I would paint over the faux painting to give the room consistency, it's too chopped up with only certain walls treated. Especially since there's no clear cut ending to the faux because of all the curved corners. Maybe a nice, long tapestry on the long wall to the left of the toilet. Maybe get someone to paint a mural on the curved wall, since hanging anything on it might be a challenge. Good luck!

If you are trying to lighten up the room a bit, I would paint the inside walls of the window white to match the sill, and then place your picture moulding on the outer walls to frame the window. I think your window will appear deeper, and at the same time, bring additional light to the room.

Design rules for wainscoting?

We would like to put wainscoting in our powder room. Just a picture frame style, which after doing some research, is probably faux wainscoting. The walls in the room are 9ft. so we are going to go up 36" high. The length of the walls are not all the same. The wall with the vanity and toilet is 64" long. So, we thought of doing 16" picture frame moulding with 4" between each frame. The wall across from this wall is 96". If we did 16" frames, there can only be 3" between each frame. Should we keep the frame sizes the same throughout the room and have different distances in between, or keep the 4" in between and make the frames smaller? Thanks!

suero, that is a great article. Their room turned out great. I don't have the option of a decorator or 2, I am going to rely on this forum for decorating advice.
