Square dining room, round table
Comments (5)It sounds like it would work. At least I think 18" is enough space for one to sit while all four legs are on the rug. I would even think in most cases one would be able to get in and out of the chair without having to move it off the rug. I've never put a dining table on a rug because of this dilemma. I Googled "60" round table on *' round rug" and found the link below where someone asked a similar question and another shared a photo of their 54" dining table and chairs set on an 8' round rug. Here is a link that might be useful: [Scroll down on link to see photo. Comments (9)Skinny tables and slim lamps don't work with the chunky seating, I would opt for more substantial tables with storage inside. Then you need chunkier lamps to work with all of that. Fred charts it out pretty effectively, showing overall height tables and lamps should reach, and then the styles of lamps that work best with the different table styles....See MoreShould I do Square or Round Table?
Comments (2)Round. If only because you have the corners on square that you might knock against. You don't get that much more space for dishes. Get some kind of cute multi tiered charger or server to help make more plate space....See MoreWould you use a square coffee table or round?

I wouldn’t add strong pops of color just for color sake, as you mentioned you like neutrals. There are so many ways to add interest by layering, texture, pattern, art. You could change rug to a less busy design with colors that better help pull the space together and be sure it includes creamy white to complement/bring out coffee table’s surface. Look for updated cushions, combining solids and patterns and accessorize coffee table. There is a lot of helpful information on Pinterest. The accessories and style of rug below would be lovely in your room, a nice refresh. Could also consider redoing shelving and again reference Pinterest for ideas....See Morekrelavie
