Will cork work for unlevel floor & hold up under Piano?
Comments (9)I must admit I really don't know much about cork flooring. I thought is was a flexible material that could handle an unlevel surface. large tiles would teeter on my floor in a few places and the room is too big to use the small tiles...plus all that grout would drive me crazy. I am afraid of the Pergo type floors because I've heard that they might not do well with pet accidents that aren't found right away. The cement floor guy said that they only add a small coating (I don't remember how thick) of the cement over the cement foundation that is already there and that the weight of the piano legs might break it down. I have the old linoleum square tiles on the floor now that might have the asbestous (sorry about the spelling) problem so floating a floor might be a good idea if I can find one that will handle the piano. I don't want carpet. Any other options...that aren't too expensive. Speaking of the expense....How much does a good cork floor cost?...See MoreCustom Cabinet Peeps - How is finish holding up?
Comments (10)Ours are poplar painted in BM Aura and are fine, but definitely not perfect after 2.5 years. (Caveat: we also have a toddler and a giant dog, so...) We have some weird problems with discoloration on a couple of doors painted white that I need to call the cabinetmaker to get fixed, but just haven't had a moment to do. Half of our cabinets are gray and those are doing well, though. Otherwise, the finish is fine but chipped in a few places. Not enough to bother us or motivate us to get the touchup paint out yet, though. And honestly, I'm not sure it would be much different with factory finishes--our cabinets get rammed with toy wagons and push toys regularly, run into by humans and canines, etc.--so we're not exactly gentle on them. On balance we're quite happy with them, though if we were doing a painted kitchen today, I might experiment with some of the newer products (e.g., BM Advance, which had just hit the market when we were choosing paint). We have Aura throughout our house and I adore it for walls in flat/matte/eggshell, but am less thrilled with it in satin for trim and cabinetry....See MoreHow Do You Know When You've Had a Successful First Flush?
Comments (10)Jacqueline, you reminded me of a poem, Let Me Live in a House By The Side of the Road and be a Friend to Man. That absolutely would be gratifying to talk roses with your neighbors. My garden is so far off the beaten path, no one gets to enjoy it except me. But, once in a while I get to talk roses with repair or delivery men. None of my friends are gardeners and think I'm quite bonkers for having so many roses and spending so much time gardening. Sylvia, I'm still waiting for this years flush! They're all pruned to the ground after this long, cold winter. Yours are gorgeous....See MoreHow are your white-centered hostas holding up this late in the season?
Comments (41)Definitely plants are shutting down. It's been hot and my water bill is huge--however, it's been raining hard here all day. We haven't had a day like this all summer. The garden centers have been full of mums for weeks and Halloween is starting to show up all over the place. Fall is definitely about to arrive. We will have days which are very warm but the sun is setting much earlier and the yard is getting tired looking. Got a bunch of potato vine plants in pots that are thriving but some begonias and impatiens are well past their prime....See Morebeekeeperswife
