Good Place to buy Inexpensive Roses In Northern Illinois?
Comments (2)Thanks for the tip. Today I was out at the Sunday Antiques Market at the Sandwich fairgrounds. They say that sometimes you will find what you are looking for in unsuspecting places....and I did. There was a John Cabot rose, one that I had never seen before, so it came home with me. Nice color, almost wild looking. Still have space for a couple more....See MoreInexpensive place to buy deer repellent bushes/trees?
Comments (3)shade or sun? For evergreen's thats a big factor. I have a part-shade shrub border with arborvitae, yew, holly, rhodies, pieris, chamacyparis. Nothing was ever touched before this year in that bed. This year they destroyed my arborvitae, yew and chamacyparis. But, they touched nothing else. Well, they may have browsed my oriential spruce skylands. It doesn't look quite right, but that may be another problem. PLus I even had put out my preventative Deervik in the fall to no avail. So... (1) this winter was especially bad for deer damage so don't throw in the towel (2) if they are hungry enough they'll eat anything, I'm sure you know that, but I'm tempted to recommend Pieris if it is not in strong sun. And my hollies were not touched, so go figure... Mine are Ilex mesearve Blue Princess. (3) Liquid Fence is supposed to be good. Not sure about wintertime re-application though. Not very practical if snow cover. (4) I know of no nurseries that will give volume discounts, but it doesn't hurt to ask and look hard for sales. If you are a People Plants Places member, participating nurseries give 10%. (if that is still going on this year... PPP seems to be having troubles.) Ditto with some places and garden organizations, like Tower HIll Botanic Garden and possibly New England WIld Flower Society. Weston Nurseries sometimes offers coupons and sales for their "garden club members". I do know of one place that used to have a yearly 20% early discount on Trees and Shrubs. I haven't been in the market for much T&S lately so I don't know if they still do that. Cataldo's in Littleton right off 495. May be worth a call. They are typically a reasonably priced place. Also, Kennedy & Company in Acton right off of rte 2, has enormous quantities of everything. They might be amenable to negotiation. Surprisingly huge physical place but small ownership and staff (like it takes forever to find help!). I think you meant shrubs that are deer-resistant, not deer-repellent. Although deer-repellent is a very interesting concept!!! Deer don't like boxwood, but I don't know if it would actually repell them. Thats something to consider!...See MoreAny sites to buy glass bowls?
Comments (3)If you want a true piece of art - a hand blown vessel, for example - try Glass Artists Gallery. I know they do a lot of custom work and could have something made for you. I'll put a link to them. They are the same company as Sinks Gallery and a number of other "functional art" sites and seem to work with hundreds of different artists. I have bought many things from them - including a custom hand blown glass vessel sink - and they were fantastic to deal with. If you want something just functional and inexpensive, I have no idea where to direct you... That could be a long search to find exactly what you want. Good luck! Comments (4)Those are really REALLY cute, and clever! ! ! I've never seen a "Basket beanie", and I'm not a fan of Beanie Babies at all, but I do like these! Thanks for sharing! Rusty...See Morejenellecal
