I have seen little chandeliers but if it is not centered in the room and rather over the sink, I think that would be a problem.

I'd have it moved to the wall, you can't go wrong and won't be stuck later.

We went with a pair of pendants for our Powder Room, replacing an over-the-mirror builders model. Also installed a can over the water closet and a puck in a niche. Our room is approximately 4 x 6 but irregular in shape. Before and after photos of ours are linked from "My Page".

I found a few pics online but I would be worried about it getting in the way too. You could do a semi-flush mount much easier.

fmnroberts - you did a great job with your powder bath! I like your pendants, but it looks like your ceilings are quite high. Mine are only 8 feet.

Lindy - thanks for the articles, the first two looked like fairly high ceilings too. The one had two pendants off center - I guess I could do that, but it's only a 39" vanity so 2 might be overkill...The third one looks like what I'm a bit worried about - how do you not hit your head on that if you're tall?

I have pendants on my island, I'll have to go and see how far from the edge of the counter they are. I don't hit my head on them...I was just trying to come up with something different. Most wall light fixtures are so common - my house is so common, I thought maybe a little wow factor in the tiny powder bath!

With only 39" I don't have enough room for sconces on the side of the mirror. If I do a center light, it will look odd to not have a light by the mirror wouldn't it?

Maybe that's why they call them vanity lights...they light up the vanity.

I'll have to go out and do some more perusing...anyone else have a pendant light in their powder bath with 8 foot ceilings?

Well back in the day (the 70's) when my parents built their house, all the bathrooms (standard 8ft. ceilings) had 2 lights swagged from one center mounted ceiling canopy. Does that make any sense? My sister and her family now live in the house. She updated the fixture but still did the swag setup so that there are two lights on either side of the sink, to avoid the head bashing. One has to like the look of that hanging chain though. Don't know why I felt the need to tell that story...... :)

Anyway, I think that making two holes in the ceiling for 2 narrow pendants would be better.

Actually our ceilings are 8 feet. The bottom of the pendants are 24" from the ceiling. They center 12" from the wall and 23" c to c above a 26" vanity. Placement was a major consideration and we think we have it right for our room. We created the narrow and tall mirror to give an illusion of height in an otherwise small space. Hope this info will be helpful in your decision - agony, I know.

If you are at all worried about banging into your pendant light, don't do it! There's another consideration as well. The light needs to be in the right location so as not to cast shadows or glare. If it's too low or too close, it could be a problem.

Your ceilings looked so high - must be the camera angle. I think if I did a ceiling light, the two pendants off center would work.

Roguevalley, that was sortof the idea I had, 1 outlet, two lights, but can't seem to find light fixtures made that way anymore.

If anyone has pictures of their pendant lighting, I'd love to see them. Or actually, and lighting they love in their powder bath!

This is a light I'm considering (in a different finish) from Seagull Lighting because it can be used as a wall light or a ceiling light. The vanity I'll be placing it over is against a wall with a pocket door so I'll either have to put a wall light really high or do a ceiling light.

caroleoh, I will see if I can get my sister to send a pic to me. I won't hold my breath on that one though, she is insanely busy. In the meantime I will help you search the net for a pic. It looks ok, if you have no other options. The chain made these days comes in nice finishes such as bronze and satin nickel. Again, some people just can't stomach the chain thing. So that would depend on your tolerance.

How about two of these? The vanity is 39" wide, so I could put one 13" from one wall and the other 13" from the other wall, so the middle would be clear.

Jenn, I like that seagull light...got me looking at their website, which is where if found the one above.

Rogue, I did some more google searching and found some three light hanging ones - they're also called inline pendants as I've discovered. I just don't think three would fit in that small of a space. If your sister can share,that would be great, but don't bother her too much! I can do some more searching.

roguevalley...I had my laugh out loud for the day! The '70's set up you speak of is exactly what I am replacing!!! But I must say, I like the light it creates! How about the new kind with the 3 lights over the mirror with the pendant on either side (all attached)?

We had that same fluorescents in a box covered by plastic thing in both the kitchen and master bath.

I love the pendant that you posted. I think 2 would look great. Another option would be a track kit with only 2 pendants (Pottery Barn has some).
