That's insane. Here's what I ordered off eBay, not distressed but when I painted and glazed, it sure looked like the real deal.

Moonkat, wow, it looks like you're making just great headway. I hope you're not overdoing it as I know overhead work is hard on you, especially on the neck. Ouch! If you have one of those seed-filled u-shaped neck pillows, you can put it in the microwave (for 1-2 mins, no more) just before bed and fall asleep with it wrapped around your neck. Yum. I do that every night all winter long. I'm so happy you got a sander you really like. The right tools make a huge difference to getting the job done -- or even wanting to. Hmmm... I ordered on the 26th, and the due date is "January 30, 2009 - February 4, 2009." I ordered through amazon.com but it's coming from the same place yours did. I am eager to see it - lol. ~~ Laurie, yes you can buy a kit (from http://www.elitetrimworks.com/home.php) but I was just doing my own thing and sort of copying the photo. I have a chop saw and I really like it, though I'm super careful with it because it could take off a finger in a blink. ~~ Helene, oh you did wallpaper over it. I am hoping after my mudding and sanding that my walls will be fine under the wallpaper. But I don't think they're good enough to do that other kind of panelling with the little boxes, at least not yet. The longer wall got super torn up from removing those boards. I like the idea of doing it horizontally. that could save time, too. I'll keep it in mind. ~~ Well, everyone, I am trying to decide if I can make the walls look good enough with the beadboard wallpaper, since the other way is so much work and I'm wearing out. What do you think? If you had a split entry, would you do beadboard panelling on the walls? Or opt for something more formal at your entry?

Hi Oceanna, LOL - sometimes I get stubborn and don't ask for help! Don't ask me about the time that I thought re-sodding a lawn would be simple (you have no idea how heavy grass can be) Here are my thoughts regarding the paintable wallpaper. I don't think that it would withstand high traffic/heavy use areas where there would be the potential for dents and cuts. I have mine in a guest bathroom and am currently installing it in the adjoining bedroom. These rooms are only used occasionally. However, it is a rather inexpensive experiment - I think that I only paid $25.00 per double roll at Creative Wallcoverings. You could order a sample and play around with it. I also think that the durability would depend on the quality/type of paint that was used. I used a flat wall paint because it was what I had on hand. I would think that in an area such as a kitchen, a satin or semi-gloss would be a better choice. Regarding the installation - I glued/nailed the chair rail right over the wallpaper without any problems. I did not remove the baseboard; just papered the wall with about 2 inches extra hanging at the bottom. Then, using my razor and the wallpaper smoother, I simply cut the paper to fit. I changed the razor after 2 cuts - they get dull very quickly. Just let me know if you have any more questions. Thank you, ALL of you, for your thoughtful tips and great decorating advice! I tried hard to learn from you and adapt this room to suite our taste and still conform to the home's older southern Low Country style, and think I succeeded. I'm still debating about building cornices, which I would cover in white fabric, for over the window and door areas, but overall, I'm delighted with the warmth of this room. Moonkat and Oceanna, the painting of the wallpaper didn't alter it much. When the paint was wet it looked as though the shadow of the beads had receded, and I didn't like that, but once the paint dried it looked normal again. It didn't even change the textured feel of the vinyl. I used a satin finish paint, and applied it with a thicker nap roller designed for semi-smooth to rough walls, thinking that the longer nap would help get the paint into those indentations the beading makes. I used a brush at the edges to make sure that all the indented parts were covered. I'm not worried about moisture in the tub area, I had paper here before and it held up beautifully through the antics of a splashing, frolicking grandson who I raised for 12 years. I've got cherished photos of him in this tub with bubbles practically overflowing on the floor...it was his favorite play area. Those days are long over, (he graduates next year.....sigh), the tub only gets used by me, and my splashing days are over! Yayagal and Allison, thanks for mentioning my DS. This is his 4th, and hopefully last tour over there. He just got married a month before he left, and I know his wife would love to have him home, too. And Brutuses, thanks for your invitation, but I've seen the photos of your new home, and your doing a beautiful job with that, all on your own! It's stunning, I especially love your new master bath.

Hi Rhoda - thanks for coming by to take a look. I referred to your blog as I did this project and it was incredibly helpful. Keep up the good work! Hockeymom I'll take a picture of the edges and post it. You can kind of get an idea by looking at the picture above with the clamps. I glued the moulding on flush with the edge of the door. On one of the doors I think the moulding went a little over the edge because it rubbed a little against the door next to it when we rehung them. So my son sanded both edges a bit and I had to repaint, but it was fine. I did fill in the seam between the moulding and the original door. I used spackle pretty liberally, let it dry overnight, then sanded the next morning with an electric sander to get it smooth. I think Rhoda used caulk. Any place I missed got filled in pretty well with paint. It was a little easier to have the wallpaper go almost all the way to the edge of the door (that happened on the hall cabinet doors, but the laundry room doors were too wide for a single sheet to go entirely edge to edge). valinsv - I was a little nervous about using the mitre saw, but my son (he's 19) stepped right up and started cutting angles with no problem. I had him do a couple of trial cuts first just to be sure that the 45 degrees was exact (it was). The guy we bought the saw from showed me how to use it. Next project for my son's summer break from college: baseboards! Lynn I might have to go to Albuquerque in the next couple of weeks. I've seen the pictures you've posted of your beautiful house - I'd love to help, but you're so talented I'm sure you'll have no problem with this kind of project.

patty cakes, just take a razor blade or a pointy object and start scratching and gouging and you'll have wallpaper worth $100s of dollars! hee hee

LOL I do *really* love much of what Anthropologie has altho have had a few laughs also. Often wonder who buys some of the stuff and what their homes look like.

I know what you mean. I can't resist checking out their online catalog every so often. Used to get catalogs through the mail and hated to throw them away. Yes, I'd like to see some of that furniture in actual rooms. I do like alot of it, but the prices are so out there. Wonder if it is well made? Did you see the chair that was a pile of sticks with a sherpa or fur "seat"? I was thinking I bet I could make a version of that. :)

I've said it before, but if I was skinny I'd buy those clothes even tho I'm too old for them.

If I were going to spend that much, I'd have real wood installed and distressed.

That being said, I am planning to use the paper and was trying to figure out how hard this would be to lightly distress. Patty Cakes, can you share a pic and how you went about distressing it? I presume sanding would be too rough.

Beth, I didn't distress, just painted and glazed~the beadboard matches my glazed white kitchen cabs to a 'T'. With the darker glazing settling in the grooves, it really takes on a 3 dementional look, so does make it look like real beadboard.

That sounds cool, and I guess that's what I meant. I often think glazing and sanding go hand in hand to distress, so I just said that without thinking it through.

I would like to see a pic though if you can. I'm getting ready to use that beadboard paper in a couple of places and wouldn't mind a glazed not-so-perfect look.
