Why don't we do the things we should?

Is it me, or does anyone else totally resist the things they should be doing? I am so much like a little kid when it comes to doing things I know will make me feel better, like exercise. I also love to meditate in the morning but I can find so many reasons not to! If I do Yoga in the morning I feel soooooo much better, but I haven't done it in months! It's a mystery to me why I don't do these things! It must be I have a rebellious nature! Also, I'm down to working part-time again and can waste huges chunks of time with nothing to show for it! My life is one distraction after another!! Ach!!!!!!!!!!!

Count me as you! I could and should exercise...I do feel better I do it for a few days get it going good and stop. I should be up working on getting the house in order...before teh kids get home from school instead I am sitting here on the puter...and will do stuff starting about 1 frantically to get it done and not be dirty....LOL Okay at 9 I am getting off of here and will only get on after I get stuff done....Stacy

I am standing in the same line!!! I KNOW I should eat much better, I KNOW I should exercise more (I can't do much right now w/ foot tho), I KNOW I should be doing some major cleaning in the house, I KNOW I should be doing more sewing projects.....but what do I do?? Sit on my FAT butt and surf!! "/ I am trying on the food thing....really.

okay, I can put together a list of topics for the FAQ and then set them loose to build for 3 weeks in Feb. while I am in India. When I return, I should have very good info waiting for me. :) I'll work on the list and post it this weekend. FAQ is one stop shopping for basic useful info so you don't have to search the forum. Florida is a unique and tough gardening environment and good information can make the difference for a new Florida gardener. I know it would have for me. I tried my first veggie garden in May!

Theresa- I thought that was a walkmaker path. I got the brick walkmaker stamps for the areas between my raised beds in my veggie garden. I'll probably get the stone one this year as I really like the look of a bed (esp. a cottage garden) that spills out onto the path. That hardscape element seems to give a sense of order to otherwise wonderfully chaotic cottage gardens. I haven't finished my project yet but I have a couple tips for anyone wanting to do something like this. First, put down weed barrier fabric between the ground surface and the rock substrate. Secondly, don't buy the concrete colorant they sell for it at the big box stores. If you look up concrete suppliers in your phone book, you'll find a few places where you can buy the integral color as well as a release agent in a different color so it gives it more depth and realism. It is also less expensive to buy it in bulk than the colorant from Home Depot and comes in many, many more choices.

i don't see why we cant post about their sasbe's I don't think it was ever said that one couldn't or shouldn't post for members who got seeds for postage. I dont' think though that a negative should be posted if they reply to an offer and then just don't follow through with sending their bubble and postage (BEAP). That would start a lot of newbies off on a bad foot, and I don't think that is a good idea. No one is really 'out' anything other the time time spent on an email, if one doesn't follow through on sending their BEAP. I also think it is nice for those receiving the seeds to post a nice review for the 'offering' member who so kindly shared their seeds and time. Sue

Bumblebeez, your first sentence is kind of an interesting comment to make in a Money Saving Tips Forum! LOL I'll address some of your questions. As far as the cleaning ability, of course it depends on the formula but people who have used it reports it works as well as name brands (with the possible exception of enzyme detergents), and why wouldn't it? It's made from the same types of ingredients. I'm not claiming it's identical but washing soda and soap are in virtually every detergent. Same goes for the smell unless you expect it to have a chemical smell and you can put additives in there for that if you like. Personally I wash clothes to remove stench rather than put stench into them. Oh and is it good for the washer, well, depends on how you define "good" for the washer, but it's laundry detergent so if you're suggesting that it would damage the washer, you can be assured it will not. I should add that there's a lot of chemistry involved in laundry and the combination of detergent formula, machine, cycle, type of soiling, amount of soiling and even water makes a big difference in laundry results. And btw, few have quit using the homemade once they started using it. There's been a couple who decided it was more convenient to buy but usually when they get it for the right price. Or they keep a special formula for certain things. As far as cost, some of the recipes I looked at before weren't cost-effective for me so I didn't make it. I do have a recipe now that is essentially washing soda, borax, soap and baking soda which would compare quite favorably. "But then how would I get those big boxes of detergent home from the store?" Not everyone in this country has a car but somehow they get the laundry detergent home. Possibly by walking, taking a bus, a cab, or have it delivered... or maybe make their own? ;) I will agree with you that I enjoy having a vehicle. I don't drive new vehicles often and it's not a status symbol for me. Often I've thought it would be nice to not have one and when you think about the costs it could be very cost-effective for many people to get rid of their cars. But it's a choice that people make. Some like to make their own detergent and they do it for a variety of reasons. Some do it because it does save them money. Some do it and don't save much but do it to have it without the additives they don't like. Some do it as a hobby or as a "self-sufficiency" type thing. Some people will butcher a whole animal themselves, freeze it, etc, and some would think that they should just buy it at the store prepackaged. That would not be cost-effective for me, but for some it is. "It's one thing to choose to save money by not having a car and air conditioning but seriously, what is more important?" There's no one answer to that question. That's the purpose of the thread I believe. There's a lot of people who simply cannot afford a/c and a car (or a car with a/c! LOL) To many of them, food, clothing and shelter are more important. I'm not going to challenge the "veracity" comment, since I think perhaps you just misused the word. I see no reason why people would lie about it. I don't think you were trying to say that though. Mind if I ask what types of things you try to save money on?

LOL!!!!!!!!! Some girls after my own heart!! I knew you were out there! Sandy, I also have problems with my foot! It really does make things harder. I finally started swimming and really love it. I grew up on an Island and have missed the water so much I decided to start swimming. I was on the swim team in high school and as of yesterday I swam over 1/2 mile! I finally found some exercise I love, which is danged lucky considering I was doing NOTHING else!! lol It still doesn't excuse me from not meditating and doing yoga. The yoga is amazing and it only takes about 15 minutes but you'd think I was heading for the firing squad! I got the food thing, too, but for a couple of months now have been really trying to watch it. Nice to meet you Sandy and Stacy!! Do you think we could help each other somehow? Hmmmmm.

I've had the "Don'ts" too. An elderly neighbor used to say, "I've got the Don'ts today 'n don't care if I DON'T do a thing!" She was an adorable lil' lady. ; )

I can be the same way, it would be so much easier to just DO it rather than think 20 times "I should be doing it."

That's IT! Today I'm filing away all my 2007 papers and getting of the stuff from 7 years ago! Thanks for the inspiration, bigbaby. I'm only 2.5 months late!

I was thinking about this this morning on my way to work. I see this gal out jogging every morning. Rain, snow, sleet, ice. All by herself. I have never been able to be that self-disciplined. If someone is counting on me to do it with them, I'll be there. But I'm too lazy to do it by myself.

I bought a treadmill and stuck it in my living room. My living room is small and it takes up quite a bit of space, but I don't care. If I put it back in my bedroom I won't see it and won't walk on it. The kids aren't allowed to throw clothes on it either, which they've tried to do. So, no more excuses why I can't go for a walk outside: too windy, too cold, too hot, raining, etc...

I've finally realize that if I don't do something to get rid of the weight I'm going to end up with diabetes.

Cleaning the house is another story....

You have all just described me too. Yes, I am a big resister and procrastinator. Here I sit at my desk and right beside me is my exercise bike that I haven't done yet today. OK, I am going to get on it NOW and do a 15 min. ride. Yep I'm going to do that...right now.

I am still sitting here LOL I have a friend who has cancer and thought I would email her...well then that started in my going thru my emails I haven't read so got that done forwarded lots of jokes to my friend and cleaned out my inbox and such does that count as gettting stuff done? Okay, if you can do it so can I. I'm getting up right now, getting dressed and doing something! I could tidy up my office. I think I'll try to sit down every evening and decide what I will do the next day. Okay, I'm off! (I'll check back later!)

LOL I did get up really I did!! I dusted one end table....(nothing is on it yet decorating wise) and then I decided I needed some scissors to trim up my 2 ferns I about killed over christmas and the hunt is on where are those 1o pairs of scissors I know I own? Now it is a mission I will find some scissors...I will....LOL Stacy

Well once again my plans for the day are foiled. It looks like the rain is on its way. We were going to take the top off of the Vet and go for a ride just to get out of the dumps. Cancelled yesterday now today.

First it was S.A.D. through Winter, now its Spring Fever! I can't win.

Lazy Day! I guess I'll clean the bathrooms. That yuky old pitted tub. Gag!

I walked for an hour, with a sore foot. I don't know what I did to it but the top of it hurts. Yesterday I had to keep untying my tennis shoes and making them looser because it hurt.

I feel great after I walk but sometimes it takes everything I have to get on the treadmill and just do it.

I am really almost done with hanging stuff back up in the living room alll the kitchen is done except for teh floors and working on that....the bathroom floor needs done is all and my room is tomorrow......I did get stuff done LOL believe it or not...Stacy

Wow Stacy, you made us all look bad! LOL!! I did get some stuff done, too! Did get up and dressed, putzed around the house and went to see Ron's uncle Edmund. It's his 92nd birthday today and I took him a little cake. He's so danged cute!

I have found that just showing up is most of the battle. Like, just getting to the pool or getting up and starting something. I can think myself right out of a lot of stuff! The silliest part is that I like doing this stuff!!!!!!!!!

Well, I got the food and exercise thing down, but what about my puter desk? It's still as bad, or maybe even worse that back when we took pictures of where we sit.

I need to get my puter desk and my room cleaned up.

However, I did haul a bunch of "free (from craiglist) dirt" in, and got my roses and blue berries planted just before the rain yesterday.

But I need to do something about this mess.

You guys got the rain Moni? We didn't get any it is overcast this morning but no rain here. I got the kitchen all done and today I just have my bedroom left and the bathroom floor and I am finished inside...tomorrow I start on the pond....ackk that is big work..not exxcited about it...Stacy

Yes, Stacy we got some rain. Good thing, we needed it. I am making progress, one paper collecting basket is empty, and most filed away (with the majority in file 13). Only got another hour till my friends pick me up to go to a nursery.

You ladies crack me up. I USED to get a lot more done before I found this (STUPID, I mean "useful") website! I sit here for hours sometimes now!
I am usually a "lurker" but comment from time and time and this one just makes me laugh so much I had to comment.
When I got home from work yesterday I said to myself "You WILL clean the kitchen and start one load of laundry before getting on GardenWeb/KT."

Me? A procrastinator? Just because I put off until now reading this? I started to read it on Thursday, but after just a few words I saw a bad word!

EXERCISE!

So I didn't read any more. So here I am. So far today I have: read the paper, had my oatmeal and tea, made the bed, fussed at the cat for getting on the new chair, checked on Eagle Cam, Africam, Gorilla Cam, and lucked out on Djuma Cam and spent a lot of time there, had a banana and more tea, watched a few minutes of 20/20 that I taped last night (will finish that later) played around on photoshop, started a letter to a friend (I'll finish that later) and now here I am back at the KT.

And it is time to fix some dinner, or I could do that later.

Oh, well, guilty as charged. Think I'll watch the news.
