Earlier this year (around April), our Whirlpool fridge started having problems with the damper in the fridge section. While the tech was here, I also mentioned the freezer wasn’t making ice unless I manually defrosted the ice maker with a chopstick so the tray could dump. That was just the start: Visit 2: Damper replaced. Visit 3: Ice maker replaced. Visit 4: Tech ordered a new ice/water dispenser. Visit 5: Dispenser installed. Visit 6: Tech realized Whirlpool didn’t include the funnel piece needed to guide ice into the glass. Still no ice. Visit 7: Another ice maker + dispenser with funnel installed. Still no ice. Visit 8: Tech ordered a new freezer door. Wrong color shipped. Visit 9: Correct door finally installed after an 8-week wait. Ice maker worked for about a month, then stopped again. At this point, I’ve had at least 9–10 service visits for the same issue, countless parts replaced, and still no reliable ice. The tech himself is as frustrated as I am. We bought this through Costco, and while I don’t blame them, Whirlpool’s support has been almost impossible to reach. I honestly don’t see how replacing endless parts + paying techs to come out costs Whirlpool less than simply replacing the fridge or issuing a refund. This has been an exhausting and ridiculous experience. Whirlpool needs to step up and take responsibility.

Three does sound old to me. You should probably refer to the instruction manual for the playpen and its weight and/or height restrictions and also it's usage for naps and overnight usage. Do you know the make of it? You could also ask your pediatrician for his opinion on the matter. They would probably know of the dangers first hand and you could pass on this "expert" opinion to your EX. I bet your EX feels your son is safer in a playpen if he's not climbing out, so that he can't get into things. Be careful not to suggest a crib at this age though. Many cribs also have height and weight restrictions that are lower than most three year olds too. Sounds like dad may need to get his house in safe order and set up a toddler type bed for your son.

I won't try to talk about some of the muddled misinformation higher up the thread but I'll mention something that acts as a chokepoint preventing an increase of new doctors entering the profession annually. I believe that but for a few limited exceptions, obtaining a medical license usually requires completion of a US residency training program. These are fixed in number and have not increased in recent years in step with the increases in our population. A financial aspect of medical residencies that most people are unaware of is that the overwhelming majority of them are funded by the US Medicare agency. For sponsoring community hospitals, medical school hospitals, and other practices that have residency programs, it's a "you help us, we help you" arrangement. The hospital or medical system that hosts residents agrees to competently train them (following specified curriculum requirements set by the various boards of each specialty) and in return, they receive money to cover the direct and indirect costs of "employing" the trainees. Free labor in return for providing training. Win-win - but the program sizes are limited and funding increases to provide more slots have been slow in coming. Most graduates of US allopathic (ie, MD) medical schools are successful in the competitive residency match programs and some graduates of foreign medical schools who do well with Board exams do too. Also, a few DOs get slots but they're viewed as less competitive applicants. Graduates DOs most often do their residency training in DO-oriented programs. Interestingly enough, and a difference between MD and DO education, allopathic (MD) schools have more rigorous requirements for being accredited and one of those is that they have to operate a hospital in which medical students can begin learning about patient contact. As of the last time I looked, such is not the case for a DO school to be accredited. Though, they usually make arrangements will local community hospitals but a difference remains in terms of the scope of medicine students get to observe and experience.
