lukki... your granite sounds beautiful! This is the second time I've read of someone who had this kind of problem with materials from the Tile Shop. Someone had the same issue with a carrera backsplash tile ... as typical for me; I can't remember who it was. Sorry you were disappointed.

Thanks Remodelfla, I think I recall the post you may be referring too. I wasn't expecting this from them, and couldn't believe it when the first tile I pulled from the box was almost a pinkish brick red! It's goin back Monday!

Sorry to hear that the Tile Shop tile did not match, but at least you can take it back. I went to the Tile shop a few weeks back, and while they had quite a bit of stone tiles, I wasn't impressed with the selection of glass tiles.
I know that you went with RTops for the kitchen, who are you going with for the bathroom?

That's beautiful granite. I remember bringing home tons of tile and travertine, as soon as I got it home and put it under normal light, they all seemed to look pink. The same with paint. Only with paint, it would look beautiful during the the day and horid at night.

I am now at the granite stage for my kitchen. Love looking at what others have picked out.

Hi Sweet313! Yes, went with RT for kitchen and feel fortunate that we actually got our install and it worked out ok for us. The only exception being that we don't have any kind of warranty and when they shut down, they had our 1/2 slab that was left from the kitchen on hold as well as our $250 deposit. We got the money back via our CC, but lost any savings we had on the 1/2 slab (since we had bought it at the same time as our kitchen). Wow, the devistation they have left behind is unbelievable, saw at least 4 people in the shops today that had lost $$ to them. I'm so glad you did not go that route!

We found two really good places in Shelby Twp that sit next to each other on 23 mile. Hard Rock & Detroit Granite, both were unaggressive sales, seemed VERY professional and accepted my terms of payment (10% deposit, 40% at measure & 50% after install). Both had a version of the granite we wanted at the same price, but we fell in love with the slab at Detroit. I think I'm going to have to go back over there to get a photo, it's just so pretty. It cost a lot more than we were expecting to pay, but wow, it's going to be the piece of resistance in the room! I can't wait!

BTW, I've been watching for you to post but don't recall seeing anything...can you give an update on your granite? Did you find some, if so what did you choose and how do you like it?

I have never heard of those places that you mention- But I like the terms that you set up- You are quite the "negotiator"- LOL!!
I think it's good that you have a splurge piece in your bathroom- it's nothing like having that piece in your house that makes you smile when you see it!
My granite install...oh the drama! I've decided not to be stressed out about it..but the install is not complete. I chose an Aran Creme on the perimeter, and absolute black for my island. My island has a support beam in the middle, and the install has been a nightmare! They are working on redoing the entire island- hopefully (keep fingers crossed) I will have it completed next week!

Yes, we made sure our terms were accepted before even looking at the granite in every store we went to and we were surprised to see that it wasn't a problem for any of them. I'm so sorry to hear that you're having the problems you are, especially after all the research and preparation you did! I'm not familiar with Aran Creme, but it sounds beautiful and I bet it will look awesome once it's done. I know it's hard not to stress, but keep on them and make them do it right! What company did you chose? I can't wait to see a pic! I will definatley keep my fingers crossed for you! And hope to see pictures of a finished install this week!

lukkiirish...I found the same thing with the Baoding Cream...Some mosaic sheets were pretty and others were very pink and brown. If you decide the Baoding Creme is not for you, you might want to take a look at the China Gold slate/quartzite from Virgina Tile. It is also a light-color slate. Another one to consider is AKDO slate in Desert Sand. I can't remember the name of the place that carries it ("Tile and Stone Works", maybe). It is on 23 Mile Rd/Schoenherr, across from Beaver Tile.

Merimom, thank you very much for your post! Disappointing to see I'm not the only one who has experienced this issue. I've had my heart set on this Baoding Creme for months but pink is definately not for us! We were just over on 23 mile yesterday! That's where we bought the granite from so I'm familiar with the area and will check out those places this week. --Lukki
