how many layers can you put on exterior of house?

ok, the old (million years old) paint was stripped, lead and all... new primer and one coat went up. (dark green) I hate it. I don't even want to hang outside- small yard. so can I repaint it or do I have to strip off the new paint?

am I crazy???? thanks for your help.

Hey, it happens. No need to strip off new paint. It's not a big deal if you're in the "its' just paint" camp.

I actually detest that lil tidbit of *color wisdom* - because it's not just paint. It's effort, time, money and not-just-a-stroll-in-the-park labor.

But in the right context "it's just paint" is not a completely stupid pov.

Like in your case.

The dark green really is just one coat. Don't look at it as a color misstep. Instead, it's an undercoat. One more layer in the process of wickedly proper prep that's all going to add up to a beautiful final finish that will last for years and years.

thanks. I'm talking in the home decorating forum too. I think I am in a panic mode and the color isn't "that" bad. It is just so different from before and I have never ever been able to change or even choose a color.

If your plants are in clay pots, chances are they will not tip over. But in plastic yes. So what I did was surround each pot with bricks. or cement blocks and they never fell. You could even bury them in holes in the groung, pot and all if you are not concerned about some kind of pest getting into the dirt of your pots. Just a couple of ideas for you..:-) The before you have to bring them in in the fall, treat them at least 3-4 times with a good insecticide as soon as it starts to cool down on a weekly basis. Kneem oil is great. You can even water your plants with this stuff too to kill in soil insects. You might be lucky and bring no insects indoors by the time fall hits..-) Mike

The build is complete. I take delivery in 7 days. I can tell that the supervisor has absolutely no desire to make this fix because he'll need to call in the electrician, carpet crew, plumber and redo all the dry wall. The closet wraps around the garden bath so a lot of plumbing runs through the area. He said the correction will take several days He WILL fix it. He has already said as much. But he is hoping for a much more expedient workaround. His justification is that the added shelving units greatly increases the storage space over the lost portion of the closet. But, obviously, I can put in shelving at almost no cost any time I choose. So his fix saves him significant time and money, but does nothing for me as I could easily add those shelves myself. That is why I considered the paint or shelves and garage door opener. He still saves time/money, and I save increased time/money.

Brick is an expensive product. I have done 3 sides brick before because of the large $$ involved. Remember that brick should give you some sound isolation. When we did 3 sides brick, our hardie side was the back. It was a walkout basement so it was a really big surface. Wouldn't you know it - we later had some loud neighbors in their back yard so really missed the extra sound isolation. It is far better to do 4 sides. What we did for our latest build is a use brick intermittently around the house so it is a total of about 50% brick. I think it works and is fairly common in my area. The design was supposed to make the house look older and having been added on to over the years. Whatever - perhaps - but it clearly is a new house. If you do the 3 sides, would you wrap the front corner for a few feet so that it would not be obvious from the front? That would be my concern. I assume you haven't started yet because all this needs to be planned at foundation level.

kporter, i'm going to urge you to do the 4000K lights. I have the 4" LED's w/the natural daylight, or 4000K (don't go higher) To me, the 3000K is too warm and gives off yellow light. do a 3500 at a minimum. my kitchen isn't bigger than yours, and I actually have dropped ceiling, but you can see how many I have (9) my main workspace area is continually lit w/undercabinet lighting, maybe a 3500 or so? during the day I never even turn on the ceiling lights I've considered doing a pendant or sconce over the sink, but the can light puts out enough light I also have a sconce (on the left you can't see) on the same line as my pendants (4000K), and those are on a dimmer in the pantry area (to the left of fridge) I have a ceiling light w/3 100watt bulbs

Yeah, saw that. I think it's gorgeous and perfectly suited to the style. No red door, tho. Just about any other color.

Lavender or yellow would be fun. A bright lime or even orange.

If you just stripped it and are now applying the first coat/color there is no need to worry yourself. Properly done the house can hold more layers than you will put on in your tenure of ownership.
