Do You Have A Scarf For Your Mantle?

I am decorating my fireplace mantle for Easter and I don't have a mantle scarf to put up on it. So I took a lace table cloth and folded it to fit. I held it in place with pinch clothes pins. I did that last year for summer and it works out well. I have a couple I can use for Christmas time. Just wondering how many of you use a mantle scarf year round?

I have 2... a brocade type one in a gold color for winter/fall and a lacey one I use when the fireplace is not being used.

Here is the gold one, it has tassels on the ends.

I'd like to see yours decorated.

Maybe I can get someone with a camera to take a picture for me. I don't have a camera. My table cloth works fine as it has a pretty edge to it that hangs down.

One year I finally said, "To heck with it" and called the electrician to come and put an outlet at the end of the mantle. What little damage he did to the drywall, I patched and painted over. Not an expense one wants to have in the month of December, but since then, every Christmas I smile as I plug things in. Now, more to your question: Sometimes I want tiny lights down the center of my table. I had a new leaf cut out of MDF and had a big hole drilled in the center. I attached a surge protector to the underside. From the surge protector, I run an extension cord under the table and down the table leg. I tried and tried to think of something that could camouflage the extension cord from the bottom of the leg to the wall outlet. I came up with NOTHING. So, instead of trying to hide it, I took the cardboard roll that holds Christmas wrapping paper (sort of a very long toilet paper roll) and threaded the extension cord through. Then I wrapped Christmas paper around the roll and tied off the ends with ribbon, letting the extra paper at each end flair out. Now, instead of trying to hide it, I purposely bring attention to the cord - which I think is a good thing, as I know people won't be tripping on the way to the buffet table. P.S. Of course, I have to put a large button hole in the center of my table cloth, but if I don't use lights, I always have some sort of centerpiece that sits on top of the buttonhole.

You neglected to say whether you want to knit or crochet....however, if you do a google search using this as your subject, you should find more than you can ever use; "hat and scarf" +free knitting instructions (or crocheting...whichever it is)

I found the pattern at Crochet memories. She has some very nice patterns there. You get three ways off having the patterns sent to you,including email which is what I chose. Cylinda emailed me to make sure I got the patterns and was able to save them. She accepts pay pal as well. Which I always love. I also got this really pretty runner pattern with Oak leaves in it.(at least I think they're oak) I knew if I tried to combine patterns myself I wouldn't have it done in time for Christmas. Hmmm reading over this I sound like a commercial almost. Oh well I am just so happy with the pattern and the service. Thank you so much for your suggestions earlier. I am thinking the Oak leaf pattern might adapt to a really pretty scarf. And I too have a mantle as seen in pic. Also thanks all for the very complimentary feed back. I'm learning something from using this forum... after you've done an area take a photo of it. I immediately see things I could improve... things I just didn't see in real life. It's surprising. So try it out and stand back and take a picture then see what you think. You can run it by us too as we'd love to see it. It's a lot easier for us to answer you if we see a picture. I'm just jealous that you have a mantle! One of these days I'll post pics of my fireplace, but I have to finish painting it first. I still hate it. hehe

I have a small round crocheted doily that a lady made for all the chemo patients a year ago. It has cats crocheted into it and is so pretty.

I don't have a mantle (wish I did) but anywhere that can take a scarf there is one on it. The Dollar Tree last year had beautiful brocaded ones with tasssle so I got several of them I keep my eyes open I love a cover on a table or bench etc

I don;t habe a mantle or a fireplace, wah! When I was house-hunting I made it clear I wanted a fireplace, but we ended up with an otherwise lovely home.

We have a wood stove so I'd catch my scarf on fire. I decorate the mantel, but only on top.

No. I can't be bothered to change them out, and it's just another laundry chore. I don't decorate for the seasons.

Nope. First reason is that I think scarves on mantels lend themselves to more traditional decor, of which mine isn't. Second is, just another thing to gather dust in my already dusty home.

Theres all ways to do up mantles,I have doilies,just a piece of material with fringes etc,My house is 1700.
