Do you know how to transfer an image to fabric?

Perhaps I should be asking this question on another forum, but I know there are a lot of crafty people on this forum, so I'm hoping someone will be able to answer my question.

What I want to do is take a copy of the back of an old postcard and transfer it to a piece of fabric and turn it into a pillow. I thought I knew what I was doing today when I bought iron-on printer transfer sheets, but I quickly learned that's not what I want. Sure the image was on the fabric, but so was a plastic like film. What I'm looking for is a way to transfer just the image (in my case, a copy of the writing and the postmark and the stamp) directly onto the fabric. Has anyone ever done a project like this?

This is my inspiration for this project. I'm sure I can do a postcard pillow for less than $95.00.

Here is a link that might be useful: postcard pillow
