Window treatment advice please - curtains, roman shades, both?
Comments (19)lovely windows!! i would definitely use panels/curtains only where you don't need privacy or sun protection... i love your master bedroom window seat!!! what a great spot that will be! whatever treatment you put there, i would think you would often want to have the entire window visible... do you need privacy at that window? if so, if i hung a shade, i would want it to be able to cinch up tight at the top, like pleated shades do... or i would just hang short panels that could be swept all the way to one side when the window was being used. with your windows, if i hung any type of blind or shade on any of them, i would definitely do inside mounts--your window wood is much too nice for outside mounted blinds/shades......See MoreWindow treatment - s.o.s.!
Comments (13)I woke up with the thought of getting a tapered valance that is a little longer on the sides. I was thinking of getting a medium silver/gray color to go with the rug. I think a purple one would be too matchy-matchy and it would be hard to get the exact shade. I would be worried that stenciling a drape would be too matchy-matchy as well, and I'd have the challenge of finding a drape in the same color. The 2 walls I did with the stencil are strong and I want to leave that as the statement. If I did it in the same shade as the shade, it may compound the color being off (and the company I bought from does not have matching stuff to coordinate other than more shades). If I can find one that is more tailored/flat across the front, that would keep the look neat. Pleats would be ok, but not gathers. I think I'd do it without a visible rod so that it comes around the sides into the wall and helps keep the light from the upper part coming in. We have a tall chest that is helping to block most of the side by our bed from dh's eyes in the a.m.. It may be a decent idea (or not, lol), but I am not sure where to look for something so specific like that. Getting it in a different color gives me more leeway on the exact shade of gray and not have to try to match the "white". I took a pic last night, so this may help show it differently. I will need to steam out the wrinkles, so it will be smoother once I locate the steamer ;) Looking at the pic, it seems like it looks a little flat as it is, so maybe adding a valance will make it look better. I think we made a mistake in getting too much window as it dominates the wall. A single window would have been fine enough for me. I am not sure if we needed this much square footage of window to meet code. It limits what can be done on that wall and I prefer a bedroom to be more cozy than bright. My hindsight is much clearer now, lol. BTW - does anyone know where to get a bedskirt that can be put on after the bed was set up? Our bed has water tubes inside the mattress and they weigh a ton. Dh filled them all last night and I forgot to make sure the bedskirt was in place first. It is actually ok as we need a white or gray bedskirt and would not want to use the one from our sage green set. That would limit changing the bedding out as easily....See MoreNeed help with master bedroom window treatments
Comments (6)Love the Shoei pocket door! I am assuming you wish to keep the minimalistic look for the space. I would go with fabric roller shades inside and against the window, for reasons of simplicity and function and cost. You could go with light filtering or opaque. You would still be able to use the window sill for a decorative object or two if you wish - something that you would not be able to do with shutters. You mention wishing to block noise. If noise is an issue then cellular shades would help a bit more. Get ones with "fingertip lift" so that there are not tangle-y cords laying on the window sill or trailing down the wall when they are up. If you wish to maximize the view out, since the windows are so small, keep in mind that cellular shades will still block about more of the window than a roller shade will when up....See MoreNeed window treatment suggestions for 5-part bay window, please
Comments (14)I like the idea of using drapes and thanks for the pic @valinsv and I will probably be stealing your bay window look with the candles etc. it looks great. Our living room is tiny and I have noticed that since I removed the vertical blinds, the room feels so much bigger than before, which is why I wanted to go with something mounted inside the window. Do you guys think that using the drapes will make the room feel small again, or will using the inside mount blinds, make it even worse? The drapes across the window will certainly make my life a whole lot easier. Someone had also mentioned traverse rods which I had never heard of. I have looked into them, but I am not sure if it is a solution I would like since it seems as though I will have to use the little hooks on my blinds. Has anyone ever used them, and if so any thoughts? Thanks for the tip on the handles, I will look for them the next time I am at Lowes. Thanks!...See Moreteacats
