I WAS ALSO WONDERING IF PARENTS NEED A BABYSITTER ON FRIDAYS OR DO MOST PEOPLE ALREADY HAVE FAMILY MEMBERS THAT WILL DO IT? I AM ALSO WONDERING IF THERE WOULD BE ENOUGH PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO WOULD NEED A BABYSITTER THAT IT WOULD BE A FAIRLY CONSISTENT SIDE JOB ON FRIDAYS?

If you're trying to get into babysitting for a few extra $$$?

You're smart to assess the need. You really need to see what the situation is where you live. Ask around among your friends, your neighbors--most people do NOT want to hire someone they do not know to come into their homes and companion their children. So your best bet is to find friends and family members who might be interested in contracting your services.

Now, I have a question? What do you bring to the job? Are you qualified/certified in first aid? Are you reliable? Are you educated in child development, child safety issues? What kinds of activities would you be bringing to entertain your charges? What experience have you had supervising children? Do you have a reliable car and clean driving record (in case of an emergency). How do you keep your head in an emergency, for that matter? These are all questions you might be asked by responsible parents looking for a babysitter. The better your answers, the better chance you'll get the job, and be invited back a second/third time to work for them.

My suggestion would be to get yourself a first aid certificate that shows you've been qualified. Then put together a bag of activities for various ages, to show the parents that you really understand the role of a babysitter. You might consider putting together a questionaire so you'd have all the necessary info (where will parents be? emergency numbers if you can't reach the parents, pediatrician/hosptal/ambulance numbers, etc)

The more prepared you show yourself to be, the more likely you'll get the job, and in some cases, the more you'll be able to charge.

I noticed that your Siam has red on her,Evelyn. Mine has red also. I do not have new pups on them but that is OK with me because I would think that new pups on such young plants would drain some energy from the main pups. I just called our extension office here in Marion county and I presented the question to a Master gardener. He said that the new pups would not pose any problems to the older pups. He advised to fertilize the plant and leave her alone. He said it is a normal cycle. So there you go. That is the voice of an expert. So now I'm jealous too. Felix

What a beautiful idea adichristi. I'll have to sock these ideas away for next year. We went with the calendar and sun screen shirt (which was also really gorgeous). I think she liked both alot. My oldest DD (7yrs) also made an invitation on the computer for grandma to come to a private piano recital just for her. I find this whole bday thing a little difficult because I come from a family of low key bday celebrations. My own mom generally remembers my bday only every other year and usually gets me something silly or used from Sally Ann. My DH's family are of the serious bday ilk. Where if you forget someone's bday you are in big doo doo. We had a party on the weekend to celebrate MIL's bday but her real bday is today. Of course I spoke to her on the phone 2x and didn't remember to say anything. I did remember eventually, but this is the sort of thing that serious bday celebrators frown upon. Luckily, they forgive me my faults easily. Anyways, thanks again for all the ideas. I think I will use a few of them for friends and send a few hints to DH that a day at the spa would be great.

Maybe clean. It's cold and rainy out. I'll be soooo glad to see spring and warm weather then we can ride the bike. OH is so gray and gloomy most of the winter. I just brought DD home from the hospital a couple of hours ago. I'll try to keep the kids out of her hair. She's 37 and had her tonsils removed last Wed. They admitted her Monday with a severe bacterial infection. Her 7 yr old had to have his adenoids removed AGAIN and they did it on the same day as her surgery. Say a prayer for them if you would. The girls my niece's age most definitely don't want their younger siblings along. Plus, I can send two almost-11-year-olds to the park together for an hour, but I can't send a 7-year-old boy I barely know along with them. Which means that either they have to stay at home or one of us adults has to go with them. Another variant I've found are two families who, when we invite the girls over, will say that they like to keep the kids together and thus turn the invitation around and invite my niece to their house. Which is better than inviting their kid to our house, but still means that my niece doesn't get to spend time just with her friend, and doesn't get to play in her own room with her friend. With one of her friends, I would say that for every one time her friend is allowed to come to our house without her brother (which is the only way I'll take her), my niece is over their house 5-6 times. And I *like* having the kids at our place. It's too bad. My niece is an only child, so when we go places, we often like to invite a friend along for her. She will sometimes suggest one of the friends with younger brothers, but we don't even ask anymore, as we've heard the same answer over and over.
