Living room furniture placement help

Here's the LR in my 1926 colonial. Just re-painted to brighten room (from shelbourne buff to Philadelphia cream) and re-covered couch from red paisley to creamy gold to go more neutral. Contemplating painting fireplace but it is a big commitment and I'm not sure. Problems:fireplace is not symmetrical with room, three openings to room-French doors behind where I took pic to a small sunroom, French doors to family room with tv, arch entryway to foyer, two windows out to street.

Is my rug too small? What can I do to add lighting by matching chairs but still hang artwork? Any thoughts on how to "finish" room? Sorry for lack of pics but I could only figure out how to upload one.

We use this room every day for reading and visiting. Would love to warm it up a bit. Scared to hang artwork until I figure it out. I do have some nice things to hang, primarily botanicals and traditional stuff framed in soft golds.

Love the lighter colors in the walls and sofa with the dark brick and woodwork. In fact, I love the fireplace and would NOT paint the brick, only the brass surround-I would paint that black. It looks like a soothing room. I think the rug looks fine, but others may chime in and state otherwise. Hopefully you can find some artwork that really speaks to you.

I think your room is lovely. Your rug could be bigger, but what if you just pull your two chairs so their front legs are on the rug?

I think the fireplace is great as is, and I would also leave the brass. I'm not crazy about the clear glass lamp, and would choose a more substantial and interesting one. Your could also use a floor lamp between the two chairs, and perhaps a couple of needlepoint pillows in the subject of your choice. And, hang your artwork!

I actually think your room is already warm-looking.

Another voite to remove the fireplace and hearth. Will you keep a desk area? If so, I would move it to the wall left of sliding doors, put the sofa table on the wall where the desk is now and the sofa against it. A lamp or two on the sofa table. Sleeper sofas are super heavy and sometimes not that comfortable to sit or sleep on. For comfort, a left hand chaise would be nice for TV viewing. With the FP gone, the TV could go to the left a bit and could sit on a small media cabinet. Rig sized correctly and a small round coffee table. ETA: After looking at photos again, I see that is NOT a desk area. If FP is removed, you could use that chest on the "new" wall with the new/smaller TV on top or hung above.

To try to answer your questions...two armchairs facing away from a room's entrance do not block anything visually. Try this: Leave the blue chairs where they are. The sofaback facing the big wall and the square stools in front of the windows and the entertainment console will be right there under the windows so you can sit and access it. As a hangout/music room there will be clutter with all the gear. Get a large coffee table with lots of storage. Get your bookcase with storage doors. Your guitars and ukes can hang on a wall next to the key board. I think you're okay if you still want to revisit that concept. This is a concept rendering and not to scale. I included the keyboard in the upper left and bookcase lower right. The windows are the blue line at the top and the console and speakers with it. TV? It looks like the opening at the top should be further left. That makes room for the TV there. L shaped seating. Shown in this concept: Sofa/loveseat, two poofs, round coffee table, end table (lamp not shown), TV on a console table, area rug, tall plant. I did not measure the pieces so adjust size and postion. This concept swaps in a recliner or easy chair/ottoman. The TV is further to the right. A bookcase or shelves would be nice somewhere. If there's no TV these would still work.

I think your room is beautiful, warm and inviting as is. I think the fireplace is lovely as it is too.

I'm wondering if swapping the positions of the sofa and matching (?) chairs would address the light and artwork issues you mentioned. You could put the small table with the lamp between the two chairs, bringing that light source more toward the center of room, which I think will illuminate the space a bit better. It's hard to tell from the photo, but It seems like putting the sofa on the longer wall would allow you to add a floor lamp at end of the sofa (the end near the checked chair) to bring light to that end of the room, while also leaving an unbroken space for art work on the long wall.
