streaks and corona brushes?

Where can I find Corona brushes? I have looked everywhere for the Corona and Chinex brushes listed here but could not find, so I used Purdy. I am getting streaks in my trim work that I really don't like. I used BM "fresh start" acrylic primer and BM "aqua glow" latex in a semi gloss for the top coat. the primer went on so nicely and no brush marks that I wasn't at all worried about them. but now the latex is leaving a lot of brush marks. I have painted plenty of times before and thought I was good enough at this to do a good job. I am painting to the wet edge and really trying not to leave marks. this paint is VERY thick and covers well but I still think I'll need a second coat. Is it the brush? Me? Paint? I spent so much time and elbow grease sanding to get a glass like finish to work on and now the painting is ruining it. I just want to cry!

A Chinex brush is not acceptable for Aqua Glow so don't consider it.

An Advantage Brush from Wooster works well with Aqua Glow as does a quality nylon/polyester brush.

Corona brushes are sold in high end paint stores and/or hardware stores.

Michael, Do you agree then it is the brush I am using? and not the paint or thickness of it? Assuming it is not just me of course!
I have checked Sherwin Williams, or BM dealer as well as Lowe's and Home Depot for the Corona Brushes. Where else can I look? We have an Ace Hardware in a nearby town. Any other paint dealers that would carry better brushes?

Sherwin Williams, the parent company of Purdy won't be carrying a highly competitive brush like Corona. BM and fine hardware stores carry them. You can also locate a dealer online. I just recently started using brush cleaner, which you can get at any paint store. I've never bothered with it for latex paint before, but like you, I just bought two Corona brushes (love them!) and wanted to take care of them. Now I feel stupid for never using brush cleaner before! First, it it so much easier than just water, and second, it leaves the brush very soft and clean. Look for a brush cleaner that says rinses easily with water or something like that. Lynn

Put my new pool in last year (Diamond Brite Tahoe Blue) and followed all recommended practices, as did the pool builder - brushing, acid, etc. I experienced the same problem with white streaks and blotchy white spots all over the pool. Pool builder drained the pool and did another acid wash, but it only made the problem marginally better. Soon afterward, the streaks and blotchy white spots got worse. Fast forward to one year later and my pool builder is replastering the pool under warranty with Diamond Brite Super Blue. If you Google "Diamond Brite White Streaks" you will find several hits which all seem to revolve around the darker Diamond Brite colors (Tahoe Blue, Midnight Blue, etc.) which seem to be prone to streaking. I went with the Diamond Brite Super Blue, as it has a white plaster base, but a higher concentration of blue quartz aggregate to give the water a rich blue color. Pool builder brought the Diamond Brite rep down from Dallas (I live in New Orleans) to show him the problem but the rep has yet to respond. Hats off to my pool builder for replastering under his warranty and good name, at his expense!! He will take up the fight with Diamond Brite to hopefully get reimbursed for his warranty work. I've seen Corona brushes at Miller Paint, Dulux Paint, and an independent hardware/paint store in my area. Not sure about Ace, but you could always call them to ask.

I'm just a novice -- but have been using gloss for trim, and notice that the glossier the paint, the more the brushmarks show. I did get compliments from a painter friend on my work, though. I worked very fast to let the paint flow out as much as possible. On the trim that is down from the wall, this is much easier than what's still attached. Brushmarks don't seem to show in the primer as much because it is less glossy. At least, these are my total newbie observations.

FWIW, I used Purdy brushes -- haven't tried Corona yet. I do find that the Nylox gave a smoother finish than the XL (the XL is "all purpose," the Nylox is for latex only).

The Nylox is a very soft brush. Too soft for Aqua Glow or Waterborne enamels.

If I can't get better brushes,(these I have weren't cheap) what is your opinion about using Floetrol? (sp?) It is supposed to make the paint dry more slowly, I assume to allow you to paint with less brush marks. Does this affect the quality of the paint? this is not cheap paint either. Does it thin the paint at all?

NO. Floetrol does not thin paint, it extends the open time. Unless it's hot where you are, you do not need to extend the open time of the paint. Brush marks are caused by improper technique. Backbrushing, overbrushing, applying too much pressure, etc.

Are you scraping that brush after it's dipped?

I am scrapping the brush on the side of the container after I've dipped it in the paint, is that what you're asking? Don't mean to sound too dumb but wouldn't I create an awful mess if I didn't? Or is this some other form of scrapping your referring to? (feeling like a real novice painter now!)
