Has anyone ever made one of these boxes. Saw them on TV and they look quite interesting.

i had no idea what they were so googled it and they look really cool!! It would make a great gift for my MIL!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Yeah I always want to take pictures later during the season and I always put it off for tomorrow - then I never get around to taking them. Will have to try harder this year. I enjoy seeing other people's gardening photos as well so I urge all to post their gardening pics in whatever forum in which they may apply. Regarding my system, the cost savings is really what my system is all about. As with you, I disliked spending so much money on plants every year and not having much selection to choose from regarding veggie starts, so that is what got me going. That and getting cabin fever so badly during winter that I get desperate to see something, anything growing. Today is a good negative example of my system. The high is 39 degrees and it is cloudy so I only have cold-weather plants (cabbage family mainly and greens) out in the grow box. The impatiens and veggie starts are all under lights in my nice warm growing room. Plants go out or stay in depending on outside temperature and sunlight potential (which affects the potential temperature inside the grow box). It is a bit of a labor intensive system but by doing this I never really have to acclimate my plants. By late April, though, the plants end up outside in the growboxes 24/7 until they are planted in May. I am zone 4b. My average last frost date is around May 10 - I always figure two weeks into May because it is easier to remember when doing my count-back regarding when to start certain seeds. I up-potted 100 impatiens and quit for the day. Went out and did some dividing and transplanting of some perennial flowers until I got chilled. Harvested fresh asparagus, wild ramps, leaf lettuce, winter onions, green garlic, and fiddleheads for my annual charcoal and cherry wood-grilled free-range Black Angus porterhouse steak birthday dinner. Picked up a bottle of wine to round out the celebration. Life is good, despite the inclement weather. Only bummer is that the Morel harvest is still weeks away...

How funny :) Cats have such individual personalities, they keep you constantly entertained. My cats know better than to get on my countertops or table. They are surprisingly good about not counter surfing too. I was searching the house over for the female one day. Gave up for a while, & then went back into every room in search. Suddenly caught sight of the flicker of the tips of her ears. There was a box on top of my dining room table & she was in it. Much larger than the box Snoopy is occupying though :) Thanks for sharing :)

Oh, Archie, you're too funny! The ones in our respective tummies were "perfectly good!" (g) Annie, no bake sale this time! I had them packaged up for our electrician and his son (his apprentice electrician) as I always try to make goodies for them so they got one box each, and for our friends who are in the process of moving into their first house (we're returning their round loc-n-loc container with muffins inside) --we've been helping out with moving by providing our pick-up truck but no "muscles." The five on the plate got sent to a member of hubby's darts team who had a recent surgery. The box was labeled with the fellow's name and "plus team" on it, but when hubby came home from the darts game, he told me that the (post surgery) fellow did not share & took them home with him! :O) You're so right about goodies like this not lasting very long in the freezer. Freezing is certainly not a deterrent! All in all, it was a really good, quick, easy recipe! Smiles, Sooz

When I have time, I'll look and see if kay's instructions are the ones that I have, but they probably are. Once you get on to the way to fold the inside paper, it is pretty easy to make. There's a secret to getting the cover on the outside with nice, mortared corners....I'll check out those instructions, but like I say...don't have time right now. This is a "book"....there is also an explosion "box"

Yes I've done them like the one in the above link. They aren't really that hard to do.

Maybee, your book is lovely, is your book 2 or 3 explosions attached? Since I'm clueless to scrapbooking, I'd really like to see a finished one, showing how it looks with photos attached/inserted, if you have a picture for that to share. If not, that's OK, too.

What a great gift that would be for a host or hostess after they've had you over for a party or vacation. It's a great idea and I may just have to try to make one. I'd appreciate the link to instructions to make a book like yours.

Maybe...the instructions in the link are not like the picture of yours....I would like to have the instructions of the one you have.

I used three 12 x 12 sheets of cardstock for the inside....I don't have a picture of one with the photos inside. I made 6 x 6 ones for Christmas cards last year and put verses and Christmas clipart inside. But...actually the smaller ones aren't any easier to make...I just had some scraps from making the big ones that I used for them. I like to make them because of all the wonderful combinations of paper and ribbon you can find.

We made them years ago in Rubber Stamping classes. They are fun and you can decorate them anyway you like.
