Updating powder room

We're going to start updating the powder room in our 50's ranch.

On the list of projects:

1) Remove wallpaper and paint the upper part of the room above the tile.

2) Remove the ceiling light fixture and maybe replace it.

3) Paint the trim and vanity.

4) Replace the vanity top/sink and faucet.

5) Do SOMETHING with the medicine cabinet/mirror.

6) New hardware throughout.

7) Remove the towel bar under the window and change the curtains.

This powder room is off of a hallway that connects the kitchen with the basement. We don't do much entertaining. DH and I use the bathroom primarily, to brush our teeth, etc, before leaving the house.

What are your thoughts about the mirror? It's a nondescript little room! I think the frame and light fixtures may have been made by the previous owners, who built this house and raised their family in it. I'm thinking we should paint the vanity the same color as the trim we choose, and use that color with some stain, on the mirror.

What would we do with the light fixture part of the mirror/light? The tiling was discontinued behind this, so if we just pulled this out, we'd have to re-tile or remove the tile, which is more work than we want to do.

Any other thoughts?
